To paraphrase our CEO, Natalie Kaminski, we only take on projects where we can truly help our clients meet their goals. This isn't about being selfless; it's practical and responsible!
If I can’t figure out a way to help my prospects accomplish their goals, we won’t work together. I don’t do this because I’m some sort of “holier than thou” self-sacrificial person who exclusively wants to help others and doesn’t care about money. I love helping people, but we all need to make a living. It’s because I'm blamed if I fulfill my end of the bargain and it doesn’t provide them their expected result. Here’s an example: I hopped on a call with a prospect a year back. She wanted my team to revamp her website's UI with a newer, sleek look. Like any competent salesperson, I asked her questions. I discovered that she had no users for her website, let alone her software. I told her that a modernized website wouldn’t provide this for her. She needed to focus on marketing and user acquisition strategies. At first, she was really offended. Six months later? She gave me a personal thank you for turning her down. Now, I have her full trust, and my odds of getting referrals from her are fairly high. Don’t be afraid to turn down prospects at the cost of a long-term relationship. Relationships are everything in business. Never forget it.
