How does APIS BLOOM work? APIS BLOOM releases a honey bee attractant at a controlled rate in your fields. This tells passing honey bees that they are in an ideal place to stop and visit the flowers. When they return to the hive with a large load of pollen or nectar, they recruit other bees to join them on the next trip. In both ways, APIS Bloom promotes better pollination. https://ow.ly/UmML50Usjfz

Moths Are Tuning Into Plant Sounds! Did you know that stressed plants emit #ultrasonic #clicking #sounds? Even more fascinating, moths can #eavesdrop on these sounds to decide where to lay their eggs! Recent findings reveal that moths rely not only on visual and chemical cues but also on acoustic signals from plants. This discovery, if confirmed, opens up incredible possibilities for understanding insect-plant interactions. Now, the big question: How can we harness this knowledge as an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) tool? Could these auditory cues unlock innovative strategies to protect crops while promoting sustainability? Share your thoughts!

Estamos felizes de poder compartilhar um estudo recém-publicado, "Successful management of Stegasta bosqueella (Lepidoptera Gelechiidae) in peanut with an attract-and-kill strategy", de Ricardo Pinto e Odair Fernandes ([https://lnkd.in/g6ibW4xx]).
Rednecked Control in Peanuts The main moth pests in peanut fields are #CornEarworm (Helicoverpa zea) and #FallArmyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), well known for their high potential to cause economic damage to numerous crops, including peanuts. However, the #RedneckedPeanutworm (Stegasta bosqueella) also poses serious challenges, often evading traditional control methods due to its concealed larval stage in #peanuts. #BroadSpectrum #insecticides commonly used for #pestcontrol are often ineffective at reaching Rednecked #larvae hidden within #peanut terminals, resulting in repeated applications that can impact #crophealth and environmental sustainability. We're thrilled to share insights from the newly published study, "Successful management of Stegasta bosqueella (Lepidoptera Gelechiidae) in peanut with an attract-and-kill strategy" by Ricardo Pinto and Odair Fernandes (https://lnkd.in/g6ibW4xx). Ricardo Pinto and Odair Fernandes's research introduces a targeted, eco-friendly solution for controlling Rednecked Peanutworm: ISCA lnc. 's #Noctovi, an #AttractAndKill product for adult moths. Noctovi, mixed with minimal amounts of insecticide, is applied as a coarse drip in skip rows every #50yards. The mixture attracts and kills the #moths that interact with the formulation, thus delivering #focusedcontrol. No #drift, and no effect on #nontargets. While #Noctovi is already known to effectively attract and kill #Noctuid moths like #FallArmyworm and #CornEarworm, the study reveals that it also effectively targets the insidious #RedneckedPeanutworm moths, a #Gelechidae, in peanuts. #Fieldtrials demonstrated that Noctovi-treated areas had fewer larvae and less visible damage compared to untreated fields, significantly reducing Rednecked Peanutworm populations and peanut crop damage. By adopting this attract-and-kill approach, Noctovi targets the adult stages of all moth pests in peanuts, including rednecked peanutworm, Fall Armyworm, and Corn Earworm. This solution not only enhances yield potential but also aligns with #IntegratedPestManagement (#IPM) practices by reducing reliance on #broadspectrum chemicals and providing #precisecontrol over multiple moth pests. With Noctovi, #peanutgrowers now have a proactive and sustainable strategy for #cropprotection. I am sure our #peanutbutter will taste even better from now on. Good for the peanut #grower, good for the #consumer, great for the #planet. #PeanutProduction #IPM #AgricultureInnovation #ISCA #PestManagement #SustainableFarming #Noctovi #AgTech #Stegasta #bosqueella #FAW #Zea #Helicoverpa #spodoptera ISCA lnc. Keeping Pests Away with Semiochemicals I'm honored to have been invited to speak at asymposium, organized by my esteemed colleague and friend Dr. Mustapha Debboun, which will focus on "Current Research of Insect Repellents," with many presentations centered on #repellent solutions for controlling disease vectors, particularly #mosquitoes. My presentation will cover semiochemical repellents for vector control and our remarkable progress on semiochemical repellents for urban and rural crop protection, developed in collaboration with our #collaborators and #stakeholders. Through the sustainable, precise application of #semiochemical #repellents, we can influence the #behavior of tiny insect pests—such as bark beetles, which are as small as a grain of rice—to larger insects like palm weevils, and even manage interactions with animals as large as #elephants. #PresentationDetails: Title: Keeping Pests Away with Semiochemicals Dr. Agenor Mafra-Neto Co-Authors: Jesse Saroli, Carmem Bernardi, Richard (Dick) Pederson PhD, Vanessa Soria, Max Latimer Lasiter, Jackson Audley, Chris Fettig, Steve Munson, Leif Mortenson, Darren Blackford, @Elizabeth Graham, Ruben Machota Jr., Ligia Caroline Bortoli, Kim Li Spencer, M.D., Teun Dekker Symposium: Current Research of Insect Repellents Location: Phoenix Convention Center & Venues, Room 222 B, PCC Date & Time: Wednesday, November 13, 2024 | 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM MST The Context of Our Presentation Human activity has a profound impact across ecosystems worldwide. The movement of people and goods has introduced organisms to new environments, both intentionally and unintentionally, contributing to novel #diseases, #pests, and #environmentalstressors. The need for #sustainablepestmanagementsolutions is increasingly urgent. In "Keeping Pests Away with Semiochemicals," we’ll discuss how repellents present a smarter, targeted alternative to conventional pesticides. Developed by ISCA lnc. and ISCA LATAM in collaboration with global stakeholders, these solutions are changing how pest and vector control is being done. ISCA's repellent solutions effectively deter disease vectors such as mosquitoes carrying malaria and dengue; they also repel pests like bark and ambrosia beetles, as well as weevils. #Economical and #efficient, ISCA's repellent solutions provide protection for #farms, #orchards, #backyards, and #urbanforestry alike.
Healing after disasters In the wake of the devastating floods in #Spain, particularly in #Valencia, #Murcia, and #Andalusia, it’s encouraging to see that some hope and resilience can emerge from these challenging times. Earlier this year, the state of #RioGrandedoSul in #Brazil faced a similar tragedy, where over 2 million people were impacted, and more than 500,000 were displaced by severe #flooding. While the physical damage is evident, #extremeweather events also leave a profound mark on #mentalhealth. Lessons learned from the Rio Grande do Sul floods, reported in today's Nature Magazine, remind us of the importance of community support during and after disasters. Research from that crisis highlights how communities can help prevent trauma and aid mental healing by supporting each other from the initial stages of response. As Spain faces its recovery journey, these insights offer a path forward. By fostering unity and resilience, we can help affected #communities heal and rebuild stronger than before. #SpainFloods #Resilience #CommunitySupport #MentalHealth #RioGrandeDoSul
