We hosted our final networking event of the year at National Liberal Club in London yesterday and it was a real treat. We turned up and found that the Aldgate Ward Club were also having an event so we ended up joining forces. This led to a very lively evening where we met lots of new people and celebrated the season. Thanks to all our followers and those who attended our regular events throughout 2024. We are looking forward to doing more next year so please keep in touch to find out what we have planned. About us
The Marketing Communications (MarComms) group is passionate about the need for all directors, business leaders and entrepreneurs to be aware and understand the importance of marketing communications. Our goal is to provide members with an active and vibrant community where we will share knowledge and enable a greater appreciation for the discipline and its ability to build business, reputation and achieve success. Marketing Communications as a sector makes a significant contribution to the UK economy. It includes marketing, public relations, communications, advertising, branding, design and digital and according to Marketing Week, it has become the fastest growing function on company boards. As a working group we fully represent the sector and are excited by the opportunity to raise awareness and build relationships. We are keen to support and enable our membership to have a greater understanding of the marketing process, to become better directors and successfully improve the performance of the businesses they lead. Members of the leadership group are: • Andy Wilkinson is the Founder of OWB Creative and Chair of IoD Birmingham. • Jeremy Duncan (Joint Chair) is a Partner and Director at Reggie London. • Trudy Lewis (Joint Chair) is the Founder and Director of Colinear, Fellow and Chartered PR Practitioner CIPR. Aligned to IoD’s objectives to connect, develop and influence we will: • Establish ways to connect members and partners through networking, topical forums and social events • Encourage development and share knowledge both for those already in the industry and those directors looking to understand the discipline more. What a great night! Last night we hosted a panel discussion on ‘Smashing stereotypes: marketing to the experienced generation’. It was hosted by co-chair Jeremy Duncan and moderated by Crispin Reed who guided the conversation with our expert panelists, Dr Helena Rubinstein, ROBERT CAMPBELL, Stan Smolyar and Grace Hardy MAAT. The discussion covered areas like ageism in marketing and the workplace, advertising briefs focused on 18 – 35-year-olds, the invisibility of those over 50 and how that impacts the opportunity to connect. The group also explored both sides of stereotyping and how it plays out, especially for Gen Z and women. All leading to identifying a positive way forward for marketers and communicators to connect and engage with all audiences. The conclusion was that we just have to go back to what marketing is all about, understanding audiences and gaining insight into what will connect them to brands. Inclusivity rather than only focusing on one demographic and communicating effectively to engage with all people. For us this means doing the work to have enough information to shape campaigns to effectively reach a wide range of interests and audiences to avoid missing opportunities. Thanks to our speakers for taking the time to get involved and share their views. Also, thanks to our team Jeremy Duncan, Trudy Lewis, Andy Wilkinson and Jessica Parker for pulling this together and the team at Institute of Directors (IoD) who supported us. The event will take place at the Wellington Hotel, in London and we are delighted to have a great line up of panelists to discuss this topic.
