Emilia Romagna is one of the Italian regions that is doing the most to counter the effects of climate change. The region is particularly prone to floods and flooding, which in 2023 caused fatalities and extensive damage. With this in mind, it is significant that the region's leaders have been implementing the ‘Emilia-Romagna Mitigation and Adaptation Strategy’ for some time now. This is because, on the one hand, it is necessary to implement policies that can decrease emissions (mitigation) and, on the other hand, to address the inevitable impacts that climate change will bring to the territories (mitigation). The starting point was to sign up first to the ‘European Climate Change Adaptation Strategy’ of 2013 and then to the Paris Agreement of 2015. The aim is to create awareness and implement an integrated and reinforcing strategy of regional mitigation and adaptation policies that will go far beyond what the European Commission calls for with directives and regulations. https://lnkd.in/dF4zP--D

Priority targets in the European Union include cutting car emissions by 55% by 2030. For this reason, it is important that urban areas take action to provide residents with greener alternatives for travelling. A recent study by the Smart City Expo World Congress has named London, Amsterdam, and Vienna as the top European cities leading in sustainable transport. The cities were evaluated based on factors such as the availability of shared bike programs, length of cycling routes, bus fare affordability, and the presence of electric buses. The study also considered the number of electric cars and charging stations, air pollution levels, and the number of airports to assess the overall environmental impact of transport in each location. With electric buses, extensive bike paths, and abundant EV charging stations, these cities show that eco-friendly commuting is not just a goal but a reality. Meanwhile, Helsinki shines with the cleanest air and longest bike lanes, rounding out the top 5. https://lnkd.in/dXXxKcQb

🚵♀️EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK is the European Commission’s flagship awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. 🏞In 2024, EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK is all about ‘Shared public space’. Shared public space brings many benefits to society. There is greater social fairness, increased road safety, reduced noise and air pollution, and an overall higher quality of life in an area where people, transportation, and activities all have their own space. 🤲Municipalities have a key role to play towards sustainable urban mobility. Green and sustainable practices should start from the grassroots. Our Intergreen project is actively working for resources to empower municipality workers and municipalities for greener, sustainable urban public spaces. You can track the different events planned for 16-22 of September in the dedicated page: https://lnkd.in/d6heWsi
