Huge news! A third in-ovo sexing machine is headed to the US market! Respeggt Group, an in-ovo sexing technology supplier, and Hendrix Genetics Layers announced that a Respeggt Circuit will be delivered to the US in February 2025. This announcement marks a significant milestone, as the Respeggt machine will be the first in the US capable of identifying the sex of white layers in addition to brown layers–particularly notable given that white eggs comprise a majority of US production. Leveraging technology to meet the demands of the modern consumer
About us
Innovate Animal Ag is a 501(c)3 nonprofit think tank that promotes technology as a practical way to improve animal health and welfare while also restoring consumer trust in animal agriculture. We conduct research on cutting-edge technologies that can improve animal health and welfare, then publish high-quality, science-backed resources to demystify the technologies for business leaders and policymakers. We then work directly with the companies developing and implementing these technologies to ensure they are rewarded for the important work they do. Technology is powerful because it eliminates tradeoffs - it can allow us to meet the expectations of the modern consumer around animal welfare, while simultaneously ensuring we can maintain an abundant supply of safe and affordable animal protein. If you believe in this mission, please consider donating, or applying for one of our open positions.

In case you missed last week's exciting news, in-ovo sexing has officially made it to the United States! See AAT's incredible Cheggy machine in action down below, and visit our blog to learn more about this historic event: https://lnkd.in/gZZvM-Et
Cheggy is leading the way in the U.S.! The first operational non-invasive in-ovo sex determining machine is officially operational and sorted brown layer hatching eggs at a hatchery in Iowa on December 10th. NestFresh Eggs is confirmed as the first customers to use the in-ovo sexed chicks in the U.S. This is a critical development for the egg industry worldwide – and represents important progress in the use of technology to identify the chicks’ gender prior to hatch in the U.S. Join us in celebrating this exciting milestone! Many thanks to Michael Sencer and Jasen Urena from NestFesh Eggs for taken over the initiative for the start to the future of innovative egg production. In a historic moment, the first U.S. in-ovo sexed chicks are now en route to NestFresh Eggs farms! Today, stakeholders and press gathered to celebrate the first hatch of in-ovo sexed chicks on U.S. soil with an event taking place at an Iowa hatchery. This occasion represents the advent of a new specialty category of eggs for American consumers. Read the full blog post here: https://lnkd.in/gZZvM-Et

Last week, Innovate Animal Ag released new research on the alarming Hatchability Crisis impacting the American broiler industry. In this report, we discuss the potential causes and consequences of this disturbing trend, as well as ways that industry leaders can help mitigate its effects. In the coming months, we will continue to cover this topic, so please do not hesitate to provide your feedback! If you missed it, you can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gDhb55q7

A puzzling trend has emerged in US broiler production. After decades of improvement, hatchability has declined by 6 percentage points since 2012. This steady, significant decline represents a real threat to the industry's long-term efficiency and sustainability. Today, Innovate Animal Ag is releasing a comprehensive report—the Hatchability Crisis—examining this crisis and uncovering its increasing cost to the industry. Over the coming months, we plan to dig deeper into various aspects of this issue and share additional insights as we work to understand and address this mysterious decline in US broiler hatchability. You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gDhb55q7 What do you think is happening with US broiler hatchability? Let us know! Today is Giving Tuesday, and we urge you to take this opportunity to support our important work. Our friends and colleagues here on LinkedIn mostly know Innovate Animal Ag as skilled consultants and leading third-party experts in cutting-edge farming technologies like in-ovo sexing and on-farm hatching. But we are in fact a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to champion these technologies and others for the common good of farmers, consumers, and animal health and welfare. With your help, we can continue to conduct the kind of research that serves as an invaluable resource to business leaders, policy makers, and other animal agricultural stakeholders all over the world. We thank you for bolstering our impact, today and throughout the year. As a final highlight to share from our Europe trip earlier this month, IAA would like to thank all who attended our CEO Robert Yaman's Start-Up Showcase keynote at #EuroTier2024. This well-attended talk was titled Beyond Commodities: Innovating for Profit and Purpose in Animal Agriculture, and Robert outlined how technological innovators in the animal ag space can leverage consumer and institutional support to further their goals, economic and otherwise. Perhaps the best evidence of this is that Katharina Maria Hesseler and the Omegga team won the competition, and we would like to offer our sincerest congratulations! It's no wonder that their presentation generated so much excitement, as their in-ovo sexing technology helps solve the concrete social challenge of chick culling. If you're interested in discussing strategies to help push animal agriculture forward into a brighter future, feel free to reach out to us here or at [email protected]. We can't wait to share more about this inspiring topic!

Another amazing experience from our Europe trip was the time we spent with NestBorn©. Beyond this photo-op in front of their Egg Placing Machine with Erik Hoeven at #EuroTier2024, NestBorn offered us the incredible opportunity to visit one of their barns to witness an on-farm hatch. We are so grateful to this team of true visionaries, and in particular Joost van Bijsterveldt who accompanied us on this excursion. We learned so much about how on-farm hatching can improve not only welfare but also broiler performance. For those not in the know, early feeding can improve chick quality, which may help mitigate the effect of the Hatchability Crisis here in the US. We're gearing up to release research about this alarming trend and its potential solutions, but in the meantime, feel free to take a look at our work on on-farm hatching to learn more about what NestBorn and others in this exciting space are able to accomplish: https://lnkd.in/gKjTJ28C

Our CEO Robert Yaman and Program Director Casey Downey are now back home in California, but we still have so many amazing experiences to share from our time in Europe. High on that list is our visit to Pluriton's new settery in Bladel, the Netherlands, which was built specifically for Orbem's in-ovo sexing technology. Huge thanks to Mariana Pradillo from Orbem's team and Christian Bressers from the team at Pluriton for showing us the ropes and teaching us so much about the work that they do. We had an equally informative and interesting time with the Orbem team at #EuroTier2024, including their CEO Pedro Gómez. We are so enthusiastic about the potential for Orbem's MRI to be utilized in poultry beyond just in-ovo sexing. We certainly are living in an exciting age of technological innovation for poultry farming, and we are so proud to be a part of it!
