We are grateful to have had the inspiring Kristan Seaford speak to our team about her experience with #sepsis. A life-changing event that resulted in multiple amputations, Kristan persevered with the support of her family and friends and by embracing her faith. In fact, Kristan did more than persevere; she thrived, raising five children, supporting the amputee community as a certified peer visitor, and serving as a mental health counselor. In a study recently presented at the European Society for Emergency Medicine 2024 Congress, half of all patients with #sepsis admitted for emergency care died within two years. As the incidence of sepsis increases with the aging European and U.S. populations, there is a need for new tools to help HCPs in the emergency department assess infection type and severity to facilitate earlier diagnoses and appropriate treatment to reduce the mortality risk of sepsis.
