The Independent Power Producers of New York, Inc., (IPPNY) is a premier trade association dedicated to the representation of New York's electric generation fleet, which powers the State's economy. IPPNY members produce more than 75 percent of New York's power from a multitude of fuel sources, such as: wind, solar, hydro, energy storage, natural gas, low sulfur oil, waste-to-energy, biomass, and nuclear. In combination, these resources maintain electric system reliability and “keep the lights on.” IPPNY's mission is to assist its member companies in becoming the premier providers of electricity in New York State. In furtherance of its Mission, IPPNY is committed to the following policies: Advocating fair and efficient competition among wholesale and retail suppliers of electricity and other potentially competitive electric resources, including renewable, fossil-fueled, nuclear, demand response providers and conservation technologies. Advocating for fair government oversight to foster new generation, fair business practices and environmental stewardship to further enhance the reliability of supply and competition of independent power throughout the state and the region. Ensuring that existing and future contractual and regulatory agreements and commitments are fully honored. Promoting and maintaining open, nondiscriminatory access to utility transmission and distribution systems for all market participants at rates that fairly reflect the actual cost of providing such access. Obtaining input from and building consensus among all private and public sector interests involved in the development of competitive electric markets, as well as those that supply goods or services to such markets. Assisting members' efforts to respond fully to the needs of customers. Demonstrating and communicating that independent power facilities are reliable, cost-effective and environmentally sound.

From our table to yours, happy #Thanksgiving 🦃
Last week's RNA study from the NYISO showed narrowing reliability margins for reasons such as expected increase in electric demand, aging plants, and the state's climate policies. The State must act expeditiously on the findings of this important study as the reliability of the electric grid is paramount and cannot be sacrificed due to nearing mandates. Previously, IPPNY provided numerous proven solutions of future resources to ensure the reliability of the grid throughout New York's #CleanEnergy transition. IPPNY continues to support New York's clean energy future, but it's critical for the State to transition safely, while maintaining the reliability of the electric grid.
The NYISO's RNA shows that a small tweak of assumptions can result in reliability concerns much sooner than anticipated. The time for New York to act is now, so that independent power producers can replace the gap left from traditional resources being retired and ensure the state transitions to a #cleanerenergyfuture in a safe and consumer friendly way.
We’ve released the 2024 Reliability Needs Assessment (RNA), which identifies a violation of reliability criteria in New York City in 2033 and highlights growing risks to electric system reliability statewide. https://lnkd.in/eT5MxDwE

Our new seasonal assessment determined that there are sufficient resources to serve expected demand this winter, but identified future reliability risks as New York becomes a winter peaking system. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eEiGbjbF
Dr. Lindsay Anderson raises great points regarding the gap in NY's #cleanenergy transition and the uncertainty of the future technologies that will power our grid (article below). Her remarks go hand-in-hand with our 2021 petition submitted to the PSC, which urged for the creation of a market-based program to identify and develop these needed resources. As appropriate market signals are established, the private sector and NY's generators have responded and will continue to do so as new technologies are identified and developed.
Today, we honor and salute all the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed so much for our country... #veteransday
Please join us in congratulating our President and CEO, Gavin J. Donohue, who was recognized for his leadership on the City & State NY 2024 Upstate Power 100 list! 👏 Full list: https://lnkd.in/ekWwDRgj

Today, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Multiple Intervenors Annual Meeting. IPPNY continues to support NY's clean energy future, but it's critical for the State to transition safely, while maintaining the reliability of the electric grid. I appreciate the opportunity to join in these important discussions and look forward to continuing them into 2025 and beyond.
