Daniel Renner, Ph.D., an IEEE Photonics Distinguished Lecturer, had an amazing time in Cali, Colombia recently. For the Universidad del Valle (CO), led by Maria José Londoño, he gave two talks, "Monolithic, Heterogeneous, and Hybrid Photonic Integration – There is a role for all" and "Life at a Photonic Startup". The talks included professional development on product scaling and development and insights into various photonic integration approaches and their applications in modern technologies. As my term as one of the 2024 IEEE Photonics Society’s (IPS) Distinguished Lecturers comes to a close at the end of this year, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to IPS for all supports. 🔐 Cryptage chaotique : vers des communications optiques plus sécurisées Au printemps 2024, une équipe du Laboratoire LTCI de Télécom Paris a franchi une étape clé dans la sécurisation des transmissions optiques en espace libre. En utilisant un laser à cascade quantique infrarouge pour générer une lumière chaotique, les chercheurs ont développé un système de cryptage innovant, où le message transmis est dissimulé puis déchiffré grâce à la synchronisation du chaos. Cette méthode, testée sur une distance de 30 mètres dans l’infrarouge lointain, exploite les fenêtres de transparence de l’atmosphère pour garantir une confidentialité renforcée. 🚀 Exciting news! The key results from our #ProofOfConcept with VeriQloud, using our #Berlin #DarkFiberNetwork, are now available in #EarlyAccess at the #IEEEPhotonicsJournal. 🔍 In this work, we successfully tested a new trusted-node-free #QKD network architecture that allows connections between non-adjacent nodes in line topologies.
