About us
humanID, a product of the Foundation for a Human Internet, a New York based 501(c)3 charity, is an open source nonprofit that offers an entirely private and secure Sign In solution for apps and websites across iOS, Android and the web. A trusted alternative to Social Media SSOs such as Facebook Login, neither humanID nor our clients store any user data - providing 100% privacy and anonymity to users. By identifying real people via a random identifier generated by hashing their phone numbers, humanID blocks bots and spam, and thereby enables platforms to enforce community policies and paywalls, effectively penalize users, and create civil communities of real humans! humanID was established in 2019 by a group of experienced entrepreneurs passionate to fight the lack of credibility and accountability online - in particular the spread of fake news. humanID launched in early 2020, and is currently looking for platforms that fight with spam, trolls and bots, as well as entrepreneurs who are interested in building new & innovative products in spaces such as social media, online media, online communication, online polling & surveys and more. Indiana’s Age Verification Lawsuit Raises Privacy Concerns The ongoing lawsuit over Indiana’s age verification law for adult websites highlights the difficult balance between protecting minors and safeguarding user privacy. With accusations of “invasive” discovery requests and debates over First Amendment rights, this case mirrors a nationwide struggle: ❓ How can we protect children without compromising adults' freedoms? ❓Can we avoid burdensome costs for businesses while preserving privacy? At humanID (https://human-id.org/), we’ve developed a solution that solves these challenges: 🔐 Privacy-first authentication: IDs are verified and instantly deleted—no data is stored, no breach risks. ✅ Efficient implementation: Simple and cost-effective for businesses. 🤝 User trust: Ensures compliance while maintaining privacy and security. As Indiana and other states tackle age verification, humanID offers a middle ground: protection without overreach. 🚨 Australia Proposes Ban on Social Media for Kids Under 16 🚨 The Australian government’s bold legislation aims to limit social media access for children under 16, citing risks to mental health and safety. This includes testing age-verification methods like biometrics and ID checks—measures that may set a global precedent. While humanID supports protecting children online, we strongly believe: The solution to more trust, privacy, and safety lies in avoiding collecting and storing personal data. Age-verification systems that rely on storing IDs or sensitive data could create significant privacy risks and harm democratic freedoms. This approach could unintentionally centralize personal data, making it vulnerable to misuse. Instead, solutions must prioritize privacy-first principles to ensure safety without sacrificing democratic values. What do you think about age verification systems? Can safety and privacy truly coexist in this model? #humanID #PrivacyMatters #DigitalSafety #InternetPrivacy #SocialMediaRegulation

Navigating Age Verification Regulations in the USA: A Guide for Digital Businesses 🛡 Failing to follow age verification laws in the United States can lead to serious consequences—think hefty fines, business restrictions, and even long-term reputational damage. As age verification regulations evolve across states, businesses must stay vigilant and compliant, especially those in sensitive industries. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you need to know to protect your business and customers: 📜 State-Specific Requirements: Regulations vary widely. For example: Louisiana requires commercial entities to verify age for access to adult content via ID or transactional data. Texas mandates age verification for websites with potentially harmful content and imposes fines of up to $10,000 per violation. California’s Age-Appropriate Design Code goes further, requiring Data Protection Impact Assessments to ensure children’s safety. 💸 The Cost of Non-Compliance: Fines and legal actions can add up quickly. Failing to comply with Texas’ requirements, for example, could lead to daily fines and potentially up to $250,000 if minors gain access to harmful material. 🔁 Staying Up-to-Date: Laws are changing constantly. Recent bills in Utah and Florida reflect the growing focus on protecting minors online. It’s crucial to monitor legislative updates to remain compliant. At humanID, we help businesses navigate these regulations by providing a secure, privacy-first age verification solution. Curious how we can assist with compliance? Let’s connect! #humanID #AgeVerification #Compliance #DigitalSafety #PrivacyByDesign

Meet Karissa, the first of many of our interns to be spotlighted! Karissa is our Human Resources & Recruiting Team Lead and is nearing the end of her internship. We are wishing Karissa the best of luck in their future endeavors! Read more about her & her experience at humanID below! Education: UC Riverside alumna, Psychology major Hobbies: Reading, hiking, and running What I love about interning at humanID: I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship at humanID, and there are a multitude of aspects which I have loved. The experience is incredibly immersive considering humanID’s entire employee base is comprised of interns and volunteers, so the work you will be doing will not only be educational but also have a real impact on the growth & progress of the organization. On top of that, with it being a start up, I feel like there’s a ton of room for freedom and creativity in initiatives you can propose & start. Such an environment, I believe, is a great place to grow, especially when you are so early on in your career. Additionally, there’s the possibility of becoming team lead, which is what happened in my case. To be given the opportunity to manage a team was huge and probably one of the most exciting parts of my internship. Then there’s of course the people. I love the HR team, especially. But the entire company makes an effort to bond weekly as a whole. Overall, I have really enjoyed my time at humanID and I wouldn’t change anything about it! My favorite thing to work on: As an intern, my favorites were resume screenings and interviews! It was really interesting being on the other end of the recruitment process. As lead, I’ve enjoyed being a source of guidance and support for the interns and working on new projects like the LinkedIn Spotlights and our Intern Performance Assessment system. Thank you, Karissa, for all of your hard work during your internship!
