In commemoration of the United States Marine Corps's 249th birthday, the Hoover Institution, Stanford University honored ninety-six-year-old Korean War veteran Merrill Grim. Grim fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in 1950, overcoming sub-zero temperatures. The ceremony included the Marine Corps cake-cutting tradition and speeches by Lt. Gen. Mike Rocco and NSAF fellow Col. Jerome Greco. The celebration was held at the George P. Shultz Building, named for the sixtieth US secretary of state, a Marine Corps veteran of the Second World War.
