Is being a mom be a professional superpower or a roadblock to success? (𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁: We have proof it’s the former!) ⚡ A recent study shows that becoming a mother significantly reduces the likelihood of women starting businesses. And for those already running companies, motherhood is linked to declines sales, assets, and profits compared to businesses run by men or women without children. While this data reflects the reality of systemic challenges, it also underscores the need for better solutions that level the playing field. 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 HearstLab. We’re reframing the narrative around women in business: we know that women—especially mothers—can and are beating these odds every single day. As a women-led VC with a global portfolio of over 80 companies with women at the helm (many of whom are mothers), we see firsthand that motherhood is not a barrier to success. In fact, the resilience, leadership, and problem-solving skills that come with being a mom are often the very same qualities that help these entrepreneurs thrive in business. Thank you to Kim Elsesser and Forbes for shedding light on this important issue and highlighting the ways this gender gap continues to impact women in business. (📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gJcy5rj4) Shout out to all of our mom entrepreneurs changing the game—past, present & future 🚀

A great example from HearstLab’s own Katie Bailey of why mission-driven work matters and how it can be a powerful force for good! 👇👇👇
Doing “mission driven” work is so much more than just feeling somewhat good about how you spend your time... Throughout my teenage & college years, I was a hardcore (#1 nationwide) American Cancer Society fundraiser and Relay for Life campus leader. We raised millions and brought together thousands in the fight against cancer. Yesterday, I received this serendipitous text exchange from one of those peers, over 10 years later. This is it. This is why. Whether you’re doing the fundraising for the research or the actual research… Funding the solution or building it… Keep going. Keep talking about it. The world is such a better place when we all do our part to move the needle forward.
