My Outreachy internship helped me break into open source and achieve my dreams. In my first year of university, I discovered Outreachy. My initial application was rejected, which was disappointing, but I didn’t give up. I spent the next year preparing, applied again, and was thrilled to be selected as the first girl from Punjab and my college to intern under the Haiku organization. Outreachy was life-changing for me. The stipend allowed me to pay my university fees, which I couldn’t have afforded otherwise. The experience also opened doors I never imagined possible—Haiku even sponsored my trip to Belgium to meet my team in person and collaborate on code, a dream come true. This journey continued when I earned the opportunity to work with the same organization through Google Summer of Code. Outreachy brightened my future and showed me the endless possibilities in open source.
