At Great River Greening, we’re excited to be at the forefront of expanding the practice of processing waste materials in specialized biochar kilns for sustainable land management. We’re not just incorporating biochar into our restoration projects—we’re also leveraging our unique position to drive a broader impact. 🔥 Learn more about work with biochar in this month's blog post: https://lnkd.in/gpC34Cbn

Restoring healthy land and water across Minnesota.
About us
Great River Greening inspires, engages and leads local communities in conserving and caring for the land and water that enrich our lives. We create resilient landscapes, address biodiversity loss, and sequester and store carbon through community-based stewardship. Our work began in 1995 with a massive volunteer tree planting project in Saint Paul along the riverfront and West Side Flats. We have since engaged our communities in the restoration of approximately 45,000 acres at nearly 400 sites throughout Minnesota. Great River Greening’s team has expertise in ecosystem management, environmental stewardship, and community-building. To achieve our vision of healthy, climate change resilient ecosystems throughout Minnesota, we center our work on projects that will build and preserve healthy, adaptive habitats that can withstand the effects of climate change.

🌿 Help Protect Minnesota’s Pollinators! 🦋🐝 At Great River Greening, we're working to protect and restore critical pollinator habitats across the state. Every year, we revitalize over 1,500 acres by planting native wildflowers, removing invasive species, and creating pollinator corridors to support migrating species. But we can't do it without you! Your support powers our work, such as our Pollinator Habitat Restoration project at Two Rivers High School where we’ve transformed turf into a thriving pollinator haven. 👉 Make your gift today at: https://lnkd.in/gYAgGgy2 Together, we can help pollinators thrive and keep Minnesota buzzing with life—one acre at a time. 🐝🌸 #SaveTheBees #PollinatorProtection #GreatRiverGreening #GreenMinnesota #Biodiversity #SustainableFuture #BuzzingWithLife

It was a great day for the inaugural burn of our big box kiln. The new mobile kiln is approximately 3-6 times larger than traditional smaller flame capped kilns, measuring 10 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 4 feet tall. Each burn cycle —ranging from ignition to quenching —produces 9 cubic yards of biochar, with the capability for two burns per day. 🔥 Thank you to our partners and funders: CenterPoint Energy Foundation Donald Weesner Foundation Hardenbergh Foundation Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund via the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) National Association of Conservation Districts

🎉 We are excited to announce the debut of our newly fabricated, big-box mobile biochar kiln today at Lake Elmo Regional Park! This new kiln is the first of its kind in Minnesota and can process significant volumes of wood mass, advancing sustainable land restoration and carbon sequestration across the state. 🌱 Stay tuned for updates as we highlight the powerful role of biochar in: 🌍 Carbon capture 🌾 Soil enrichment 🌳 Environmental restoration
