Finally ready to share my blog post for MJBizcon 2024. Here's a little bit of what I wrote: After all that, it was time for happy hours at the Cosmo. I attended the Surfside Women's event for the third time and ran into Lisa Farrell Battista and one of my good friends, Steph Woods. Afterward, I went to the CannaLounge and saw my girls Aubrey Amatelli 💘 and K.C. Santana and several people from the The Cannabis Chamber of Commerce Both parties were great and had lots of good people to talk to with both inside and outside options. And the views are pretty sweet! Sandra Bergman and I ran back and forth a bit trying to find all the people we wanted to see including Michael Mangi and had a fun run-in with Joe Khoury as we came out of the elevators. There are people that spend their entire MJbizcon time at the Cosmo and don't even go to any events...it's truly the place to be! Had a great time at Benzinga's Cannabis Capital Conference CA Market spotlight in Anaheim last week and wanted to share a short blog post I wrote about it. Here is a little from the post: The first thing that stood out as a theme throughout the day was that California is a leader in the cannabis space and that isn't changing. I've said many times that a huge part of the cannabis industry is the culture and cannabis culture is deeply rooted in California. Whether it's the Emerald Triangle with perfect cultivation conditions or the music industry and its ties to cannabis, California creates a lot of cannabis trends. It makes this market important, maybe even the most important market. Check out a recent blog post that discusses my time at Meadowlands put on by Meadow in Northern California and at Benzinga's Cannabis Capital Conference in Chicago. Here is a little bit from the post where I talk about David Hua and his vision: Meadowlands is indeed summer camp for stoners. Camp Navarro is where many people in the area went to camp when they were children and it's the perfect retreat for adults to kumbaya and have important conversations. Hua (as those who know him call him) has been an important figure in California cannabis and is an authentic leader who leads with his heart. He's someone you should pay attention to and he cares more about progress than profits while growing one of the most amazing teams in the industry. Hua also appreciates amazing cannabis and knows that bringing people to the Emerald Triangle where the best cannabis is grown matters. One other expert from later in the post: Though it was different spending time in climate-controlled buildings and comfy chairs compared to the previous week out in nature, there was still plenty of kumbaya-ing that was had. Whether it was smoking some sun-grown California flower in blazers or having deep-dish pizza with some of my favorite people, it was special and important. We chatted a bit as we strolled through one of the halls and chatted with brands. I met Pete at the Dunkz coffee and donuts event at Emerald Cup, he's also from Chicago and is very thoughtful about the ingredients used in his hemp drinks. Made it up to Santa Rosa for Hall of Flowers tomorrow. It’s my first time here and had a really lovely walk around some of the town. Who else is going to be at the show?? Can’t wait to see all the people that make the cannabis industry so wonderful despite the challenges!

How to pick the right cannabis POS THE FIRST TIME? Picking the right point-of-sale system (POS) is one of the most crucial and consequential decisions a dispensary has to make. Why is it so vital? Because POS systems touch just about every aspect of dispensary business from sales, to inventory management and compliance, to loyalty and retention,  to  analytics. Dispensary POS systems also need to have the capability to integrate with multiple third-party platforms in your dispensary tech stack. This adds a layer of complexity to the decision-making matrix. Don’t assume every third-party platform will be plug-and-play. It just doesn’t work that way in the weed world. To pick the best POS for your dispensary, it’s crucial to understand the core capabilities of dispensary POS systems, the key differences between the leading providers, and the integrations that they support. As cannabis spreads across the US, POS companies must adapt as well. Cannabis is unique because every state implements their own regulations. Therefore, software companies have to redevelop software to meet each state’s specific needs. As a result, your choice of POS providers may vary by market , and some providers are better suited for certain states. I went to my first The Emerald Cup in Oakland last weekend and it was a blast! Here's a little bit from my post about it: And of course, education was a big part of the weekend. From the panels to the exhibits there was plenty to learn. I even had the pleasure of educating a couple of colleagues about hash holes! There was an event put on by Dunkz, Bosky, Kalya and Contraband Coffee that was called Donuts and Coffee featuring the Dunkz award-winning hash holes. The picture at the beginning of this post is of me with KC Santana who was part of the team that produced the Emerald Cup, moderated a panel, and judged the preroll competition. She's also the first person who brought Dunkz to my attention and I felt so fortunate to spend a little quality time with her during a crazy weekend. Please check out my blog post about the cannabis anti-monopoly crash course held recently in Providence, RI. Here's a little bit of what I wrote: Several law and policy experts spoke next. I often get frustrated with the state of our politics and that our government can't actually work together to make any progress and it was reassuring to hear from people who are on the front lines. One of the things that I appreciated hearing was that though we aren't able to get anything done with the current congress, they are still making progress and lining all the ducks up in a row so that when the time comes, they are ready. It's an important aspect of the political process that I don't always appreciate and a reminder of why we have to stay always vigilant. Maritza Perez Medina, Esq., Margeaux Lavoie, and Cat Packer all gave interesting talks, and I'm grateful for the difficult work they continue to do. Last month we had our San Diego Blunt Brunch event and it was not just great to get together with some of my favorite ladies but also we all got new headshots! A friend of mine recently posted some guidelines on a good LinkedIn headshot and I’m trying to stick to her advice. Anything I should do differently? Looking forward to meeting many more people IRL that I’ve met through this community and hoping I made it a little easier with a fresh updated headshot. Oh, and if I’m at a conference wearing a blazer, it’ll probably be the pink one in the pic 😉
