Yesterday, I signed an executive order establishing a Fiscal Responsibility Program to monitor state spending and ensure our government operates efficiently. Throughout my time in the U.S. Congress and as the Louisiana Attorney General, I have prioritized finding ways to cut out fiscal waste and end government bureaucracy. My time as Governor is no different. I look forward to the work Steve Orlando and the rest of the members will accomplish, as we seek to build a government in Louisiana as good as her people. In each of the 608 adoptions that took place in Louisiana this year, we see hope, we see love, and we see a community that uplifts our most precious gifts— our children. Thank you to the families who stepped up and to DCFS Secretary Matlock and his team for their hard work. This Administration is committed to continuing to find ways to uplift and support the children and families that make up Louisiana. 

The Mid Barataria Sediment Diversion project in its current state will exceed the $2.26 billion budget, as the price of the program has doubled since 2016. On top of that, it hurts our Louisiana seafood industry, our culture, and the livelihood of our fishermen. We cannot continue down this broken path. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Sheahan and I are thrilled to announce Louisiana’s first black bear hunting season in nearly 40 years! Thanks to decades of conservation efforts, the Louisiana black bear is thriving again! This season also includes a partnership with the Healing Road Foundation to support veterans.
