Happy Saturday! Please checkout this week's edition of Branded Hospitality Ventures' Hospitality Headline Newsletter - "ESG Companies, Don't Lead with ESG" The link is in the comment section. The Top of the Funnel is a little unsolicited advice for ESG companies about what they need to lead with if the objective is to raise capital. And as the title suggests, it's not their ESG. Big Shoutout section this week! Shoutout #1 is to Branded's newest portfolio company, Fishbowl and our enthusiasm to be supporting Adam Ochstein and the team at the OG of guest engagement that has modernized its offering to deliver the best-in-class Guest Relationship Management platform! Shoutout #2 is to our friends at Copia and specifically its CEO, Kimberly Trouville Smith who is our guest contributor this week with her article: Waste an Overlooked Asset: Unleashing Hidden Profits in Foodservice Businesses. Shoutout #3 is to our friends at Brizo FoodMetrics who this week unveiled its fully redesigned platform. Big love for you Team Brizo! Shout #4 is to our friends at Toast for their impressive quarterly numbers and the collaboration the entire Branded team is enjoying with this outstanding company! We also have articles from our restaurant evangelist 🍔🍟🍕🎙 David "Rev" Ciancio, and our got-to-market specialist, Seth Temko. And of course, our B-List, which, as always, is created by the "Machine" and its "algorithms" that continue to highlight the good people, that are making good things happen, in this industry we love. We've all been confused by them before... "best by", "use by", "enjoy by", "fresh through", "freeze by" and sometimes, even just a date with no words preceding it. These labels are confusing for consumers and also lead to a lot of unnecessary food waste. California is combatting this issue by narrowing it down for manufacturers. These are only ways to share dates with consumers: 🍎 "best if used by" to inform peak quality 🍏 "use by" to communicate product safety These new rules are hitting the shelves in July 2026! Copia was thrilled to be selected by the DNC as their food recovery partner. Every day of the week-long event, Copia facilitated donations of high-quality surplus food to nonprofits across Chicago. We were honored to be the trusted partner capable of streamlining the donations for such a massive national event. A special shout-out goes to the entire sustainability team at the DNC! To our partners Marley Finnegan (PURPOSE Net Zero), Stephanie Katsaros (Bright Beat), as well as Doug Bradley, and Tracy Cammack (McCormick), thank you for trusting us to make this happen. And of course, none of this would be possible without our amazing nonprofit partners, Fight2Feed, Yahna Awazu at Community Solutions of Illinois, Breakthrough Urban Ministries, Covenant House Illinois, Franciscan Outreach, Chicagoland Food Sovereignty Coalition (CFSC), and many more who helped distribute the food. Check out the incredible impact ⬇ ! 🟢 19,700 lbs donated 🟢 16,416 meals served to the local nonprofits 🟢 4,491,539 gallons of water saved 🟢 60,675 lbs of CO2e delivered (equivalent to 2,826 gallons of gas saved)

Thank you to the Prosper Forum for hosting such an incredible event this week! It was an honor to have our CEO, Kimberly Trouville Smith, share the stage with Megan Bloomer, PhD, from The Cheesecake Factory. They discussed the many benefits of donating surplus food, ranging from hyper-local social impact to measurably higher employee morale to enhanced tax deductions, based on our years-long partnership. Our team was thrilled to connect and share Copia’s case study with many restaurant and hospitality industry leaders! Together, we can make a difference by simply sharing our excess resources to tackle food insecurity! Paige Lowe Keith Katz

WOW!! What a week and what an impact made in the City of Chicago!! I couldn't be prouder of our Copia team members who jumped in with both feet when the 2024 Democratic National Convention Committee Sustainability Team reached out for our expertise in managing food donation logistics, supply and demand coordination, and data tracking for large-scale, multi-event operations! Thank you, Marley Finnegan and Stephanie Katsaros for placing your trust in Copia. Congratulations to you and your entire sustainability team—your vision to ensure that all surplus food was fed to local nonprofit organizations instead of being wasted truly came to life in a big way! LinkedIn network, please consider resharing the below post with these impressive impact numbers so that others can see the power of collaborative efforts in making a tangible difference for communities and the environment. The more awareness we raise, the more who will also jump in with both feet to redistribute their perfectly edible food to those in need!

First order of business recapping the 2024 Democratic National Convention Committee Sustainable Event Strategy: Food Rescue as a Climate Solution → 26,746 lbs. of surplus* food was rescued from the convention! (*surplus exists at most every event, due to guest count uncertainty) → 22,288 meals were served to local Chicagoans in need → 5,307,024 gallons of water were avoided in food production → 93,886 lbs. of CO2e were kept from being generated in landfill (equivalent to 4,792 gallons of gas saved) The opportunity to rescue food exists the world over, at every event, convention, stadium, arena - every time we gather together over food. Food rescue is a climate solution which also supports food equity; advocate for this to surface in legislation near you. So grateful for the dream team who supported this work from start to finish! DNC Sustainability Team: Stephanie Katsaros, Malik Coburn, Ethan Viets-VanLear + Isabella Bonanno with support from the wonderful Tracy Cammack (plus all our amazing Green Team Leads + Eco Educators!) The incredible teams at Levy Restaurants - United Center + Fight2Feed at McCormick Place Our amazing food donation tech partners @ Copia: Kimberly Trouville Smith, Paige Lowe, Mimi W. + Benjamin Mottsman And THANK YOU so much to our partners at the City of Chicago: Angela Tovar, Kyra Woods, Jared Policicchio, Christopher Sauve, Jennifer Herd Derek Burling, P.E.
