About us

GSA is Where Leaders Meet to establish an efficient, profitable and sustainable semiconductor and high technology global ecosystem encompassing semiconductors, software, solutions, systems and services. It is a leading industry organization that provides a unique neutral platform for collaboration, where global executives interface and innovate with peers, partners and customers to accelerate industry growth and maximize return on invested and intellectual capital. With 300+ corporate members that span across all 6 continents, GSA members represent 70% of the $550B+ semiconductor industry and continues to grow. GSA offers a unique, efficient and strategic platform for thought-leadership across a broad array of semiconductor technologies and markets through curated regional and global executive and technical forums, leadership networking events, workshops and working groups. These gatherings allow our members to demonstrate thought leadership, engage in thought exchange with peers or simply remain up to date on topical issues for the industry. In addition, they provide opportunities to share best practices and gain precious visibility opportunities. GSA members also have access to a repository of data and information including financial reports and resources, company data, surveys and technology and market reports. Lastly, the critical importance and global economic impact of the semiconductor industry on our society is often underappreciated by the general public. For this reason, the GSA launched a Semis Matter initiative and website (www.semismatter.com) which houses the most comprehensive study of the semiconductor industry and promotes its $7 trillion contribution to the global economy and its value to humanity.

“30 Icons in 30 Years” continues for our GSA 30th anniversary, and today we are honored to share this special message from an industry icon, the esteemed Sir Robin Saxby. In 1991 Robin joined Cambridge-based, start-up ARM as their first CEO and built it to "a global giant" with offices round the world. He was Chief Executive from 1991-2001, and subsequently Chairman from 2001-2006. It was at ARM that he made his real impact on the electronic industry. When he was appointed CEO in 1991 he took 12 engineers from Acorn Computers into the newly formed joint venture between Acorn and Apple. With a limited budget of a $1.5m investment from Apple he made those 12 engineers into one of the most formidable management teams in the industry. In a memorable early meeting he persuaded one of the engineers to volunteer to become the VP marketing, another the VP sales and so on. During his 10 years as CEO he made ARM the most valuable company in the Cambridge cluster with a market capitalisation of over $10bn. ARM under his leadership became a global company with offices in many countries and licenses taken by all significant semiconductor companies in the world. This is a unique achievement for a British company, especially in electronics. Since his retirement from ARM he has become a tireless promoter of young entrepreneurs and is involved in a number of start-up companies which he supports with advice, finance and infinite patience. He has dedicated countless hours to mentoring young entrepreneurs, helping them through difficult times and never losing faith in them. Thank you, Robin, for your unwavering support of GSA. Your unmatched dedication to innovation and your invaluable contributions have made a lasting impact on our industry. We look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s grand celebration, the 2024 GSA Annual Awards Dinner, 30th Anniversary Edition on December 5th: https://lnkd.in/g4W9zmUe. #GSA #Awards #Whereleadersmeet #semiconductor #technology

  • GSA Throwback: The first ever, GSA/FSA Chair!

View profile for Jodi Shelton, graphic

Global Technology Leader Co-Founder and CEO, Global Semiconductor Alliance Available for Advisory and Board of Director opportunities

Thank you to Robert Pepper our first GSA/FSA Chair in 1994. These are his words: "It is very hard to believe that Global Semiconductor Alliance formerly FSA has been in operation for 30 years. It is easy to recall the beginning of this enterprise. We had organizing meetings in Silicon Valley restaurants that often went late into the evening. I was impressed at the dedication of the founding members to create an organization that would truly benefit its members. Each founding member put in enough capital to get this project started. What was impressive from the beginning was the desire to work together to solve problems for everyone even though we had members of companies who were major competitors in the market place. The key was Jodi Shelton. She had gone to meet Bill at his office to discuss the idea of an organization to make sure the financial community understood that #Fabless was the way of the future. In fact, while I had a fabulous BOD and they made many helpful suggestions, the only time we really disagreed was they thought that my spending time and money of this project was totally a waste.  Jodi attended the first dinner and pitched why she was able and willing to lead the organization. After she left the dinner, we discussed her offer. While we questioned her qualifications, she certainly impressed us with her drive and commitment. She had even offered to start working with no salary since we had very little funds. She put up the money initially to have the bylaws written. We decided to give it a try and the rest is history. Jodi has done a remarkable job in guiding this organization. It is nearly impossible to resist a request from her. She was tireless in her efforts to bring “respect” to the fabless model. Early on we provided fabless companies with device models they could use in their designs to be sure a foundry could fabricate their product. We also got strong financial help from Mark Edelstone to publish the wafer demand survey to show what a force we were. We were now finally on the road to getting “recognition” of this business model. Jodi was the first to suggest really deeply involving our wafer fab companies and she recommend we expand our footprint into Taiwan and actually spent several months with her kids in Taipei and then later to China. The result was a very strong relationship with TSMC and Morris Chang its founder and CEO. I had the honor and privilege of being the first Chairman of the Board of FSA and I highly valued the dedication and wisdom of my fellow board members. Jodi continued to push into new geographic areas and drive the concept of Global Semiconductor Alliance. I will not be attending the 30th celebration, but I remember well I our first dinner, in the basement of a library, and wondering if we would get 30 or 40 guests. That night began the tradition of underestimating our attendance. We had 94 people and overfilled the facility. Congrats on this huge milestone.
