A monumental moment for The Westbrook Academy, Why Not? Foundation and LA Promise Fund. Couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished in South Gate with the opening of the brand new Westbrook Academy campus. When Nina Westbrook, Donnell Beverly Jr and I partnered with LA Promise Fund in 2021, our goal was to serve South and Southeast Los Angeles by providing students with a strong education, leadership development opportunities and high-quality athletic programs. With our new expansion, students now have access to state-of-the-art classrooms, science labs, a film studio, student lounge, library and two wellness centers. The new facility comes years after our middle and high school operated out of temporary locations. Not only that, but our new campus features Legacy Rooms and murals throughout the hallways featuring local LA legends and social justice heroes including Kobe Bryant, Nipsey Hussle, Rosa Parks and Cesar Chavez. Currently enrolling Grades 6-12, it’s a dream come true to provide a safe place of learning, community and innovation in the area I call home.
