In December, we’re sharing information about Charlotte-area charities recommended by our community of paying members. Today, we’re highlighting GenerationNation, which works to develop a new generation of civic leaders. Ledger reader Amy Farrell writes: "Charlotte’s only K-12 civic literacy and student leadership education organization, GenerationNation is developing a new generation of leaders for Charlotte and beyond. Students learn first-hand how their governments and communities work and build knowledge, skills, experience, social capital and opportunity for leadership now and into college, career and civic life." One of the most powerful ways we can ensure the strength of our schools, communities, and nation now and into the future is by investing in the students who are getting ready to take the lead. It is imperative that every student have access to quality civic education and student leadership experiences where they can make friends with peers from different schools and backgrounds, directly engage with adult leaders, build skills for collaboration and problem-solving, know about and practice civil discussion, have meaningful opportunities for student voice, increase their social capital, and play a role in transforming neighborhoods, schools, and communities for the better. This is GenerationNation’s mission. You help make it possible! Thank you for supporting our work. Together, we are developing a new generation of civic leaders. Want to help further GenerationNation’s mission? Please consider including GenerationNation in your Giving Tuesday and year-end contributions and sharing about GenerationNation on social media. https://lnkd.in/evTUT9Fw

  • Congrats to Lucy!

Congratulations to Lucy Silverstein, an 11th grader at Providence High School, for being elected as the 2025 Student Advisor to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education! This year’s Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools student voting saw a 50% increase in participation! A huge shoutout to all the amazing candidates—each one brought unique perspectives and strength to the race. The Student Advisor position is one of the few of its kind in the country, ensuring student voices are heard in critical Board decisions. We’re excited to see Lucy bring her leadership to the table!
