Partner at Garrison | Placing Partners, Counsel & Associates | DC Market Expertise (15+ Years) | Former Paul Hastings Litigator | Mom of Boys

The Mock Interview - Just Do It: This morning I debriefed with a candidate about her recent first round interview. All the questions we had prepared for came up. But more importantly, a variation of the tough/sensitive question that we anticipated also came up, and she nailed it! The “tough” question is case-by-case, but here are some examples: --> (to a partner/counsel/associate): "We saw that a couple partners in your group recently departed [open-ended to see how the candidate fills the space...]" --> (to an associate/counsel): "You are already at a top firm, in a top practice, and it sounds like getting great experience, so why are you thinking of leaving?" --> (to a senior associate):  "Associates in our group start taking depositions as a 2nd Year (even if just a 30(b)(6))...and you are now a 6th Year, do you have any deposition or stand-up oral argument experience?" Bottom line is don't ever think you can just wing it. A good recruiter holds a mock before the interview. A great recruiter identifies the blind spots and prepares you for them. A rockstar candidate embraces the mock and thinks quickly on their feet. Now on to the second round - and snaps to my rockstar!!! #mockinterview #interviewtips #justdoit

  • Congratulations to Garrison recruiter Erin Sears on her promotion from Vice President to Partner. *** WASHINGTON, D.C., July 23, 2024 – Garrison today announced the promotion of Erin Sears from Vice President to Partner. “We are very excited to elevate Erin to Partner,” said Garrison partner Dan Binstock.  “Since joining Garrison in 2018, Erin has demonstrated the skills and tenacity to succeed at the highest level.  We have always been proud to have Erin on our team, and this recognition is much deserved.”   Erin’s practice focuses on law firm placements, spanning regulatory, transactional and litigation practices.  She brings particular knowledge of practices with regulatory components, especially financial services and banking.       “Erin receives more referrals than any recruiter with whom I have worked,” said Garrison partner Matt Schwartz. “Her referrals are a testament to her extensive knowledge, creative thinking, hard work, and most importantly, results.”   “Erin is an exceptional recruiter,” said Garrison partner Nancy Palermo.  “She is respected by our clients and a wonderful advocate for her candidates. In addition, her professionalism, excellent writing ability, and great sense of humor are appreciated by everyone on our team. I look forward to having her as my colleague and friend for years to come.”   “I am so appreciative of the confidence that Garrison has in me,” said Erin. “I am thankful every day to work alongside likeminded colleagues who are so dedicated to our candidates and clients.”  Erin added, “We have such a collaborative approach and genuinely enjoy working together, which is so important in this business.”   Prior to joining Garrison, Erin practiced for twelve years at Paul Hastings in Washington, D.C., as well as at Three Crowns, an elite international arbitration boutique. Her law firm experience has proved an invaluable asset in understanding the DC market.  Before practicing, Erin earned her J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis (2004) and her B.S. from the University of Maryland (2001), with double degrees in International Business and Logistics/Transportation, along with double minors in Portuguese and Spanish.
