🌿 As we end 2024, we are grateful to our members and partners for all our collective work this year. We look forward to deepening our commitment and partnerships in 2025 as we continue to address the harms of industrial food systems, strengthen our work on the aquatic-terrestrial foods nexus, expand support for agroecological and regenerative agriculture practices, and elevate powerful stories of transformation and leadership. Fossil fuels are embedded in every stage of our food systems—from production to processing and beyond. How do we break free? Our Executive Director, Anna Lappé, joins Matt Eastland on EIT Food's The Food Fight #podcast to explore the hidden fossil fuel dependencies in our food systems and the pathways to sustainable solutions. 💡 Key topics include: 🔋 Moving beyond synthetic fertilizers and pesticides 🌱 The promise of regenerative agriculture 🥫 Rethinking ultra-processed foods This is about systems change, not quick fixes—aligning food production with a fossil-free future that supports both people and the planet. 🎧 Tune in to the episode: https://lnkd.in/ezzvM2Hv #FoodSystemsTransformation #FossilFreeFood #Sustainability

📢 A transition to #agroecology and regenerative food systems would help us meet our climate, biodiversity and food security targets. Transitioning to agroecology requires USD 430 billion annually. But right now it only gets USD 44 billion. In contrast, nearly USD 630 billion goes annually towards agriculture subsidies, half of which are harmful. This doesn't add up. We need to transform our #FoodSystems. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3X5eUsY

💰 It’s time for a climate finance reset at #COP29Azerbaijan! 🌍 Food systems are vital for a sustainable future but remain critically underfunded. While public climate finance has increased overall, the portion allocated to food systems has dropped to just 2.5%, and sustainable food systems receive just 1.5% of public climate finance❗ This new report, developed together with the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, reveals the urgent need to scale up climate finance by 10x to $500B annually to transform food systems and build resilience for those on the frontlines of the crisis—smallholder farmers, fishers, and Indigenous Peoples. 🌱 Key actions for resilient food systems include: ✅ Phase out fossil-fuel-based agrochemicals ✅ Shift to renewable energy in food processing ✅ Redirect harmful subsidies toward sustainable practices like agroecology ✅ Support local and Indigenous food systems The New Collective Quantified Goal (#NCQG) is a pivotal opportunity to channel resources where they’re needed most—food systems adaptation and mitigation. 📖 Discover actionable strategies to drive impactful change: https://lnkd.in/dMnKcddZ #ClimateFinance #ClimateAction #FoodSystemsTransformation COP29 Azerbaijan haseeb bakhtary Sara Minoli Lauren Baker Matheus Alves Zanella

“If we are able to show at the board and the company level, basically, the financial materiality of doing all of this, then we're good to go”. On November 26, we held our second Dialogue on True Cost Accounting and the Private Sector, part of our Scaling Implementation Dialogue Series. Our workshop participants spoke candidly on challenges to scaling TCA in the private sector, and identified tangible steps to catalyze change. 💡 Read the blog to explore the discussion further! We need more funding and finance for agroecological food systems. Public climate finance should be contributing, but current levels are marginal (1.5%!). Rosinah Mbenya and I make the case for new funds for farmer organisations to support a shift to #agroecology, adapt to climate change, and implement solutions to phase out fossil fuels.

❗ A critical challenge: New research highlights that industrial #FoodSystems are a major driver of biodiversity loss and climate change. Traditional food systems often prioritize short-term profits over long-term ecological health. To ensure a sustainable future, we need to: ✅ Embrace agroecological approaches that enhance biodiversity ✅ Support small-scale food producers and Indigenous communities ✅ Foster policy coherence between food systems and biodiversity strategies It's time for a transformative approach.
