Yesterday, I had the chance to attend Tools of the Trade: Ontario’s Blueprint for Prosperity with the Honourable David Piccini, Marc Arsenault, and Michae Clemons at the Empire Club of Canada The discussions were eye-opening, highlighting the urgency of addressing Ontario’s productivity challenges and the opportunities we have to shape a stronger, more inclusive workforce. One point from Minister Piccini really stood out: Ontario’s #productivity is declining despite more formal education than ever before. This disconnect between gained skills and connection to employment is holding us back. If we want to increase our productivity—and in turn, raise our standard of living—it starts with rethinking how we invest in people. Some things that really stuck with me: - Earn while you learn models, like apprenticeships, are a critical way to provide workers with skills-based, on-the-job learning while paying them for their time. - Ontario is taking a proactive approach to tackling barriers. Banning country-specific experience requirements is a huge step forward in focusing on skills and competencies instead of arbitrary measures. - We’re in a pivotal moment with 1 in 3 tradespeople retiring in the next decade. If we’re not intentional about addressing this, we risk falling behind—but if we act, there’s so much opportunity to grow. At FutureFit AI, this focus on #skills and #outcomes is at the heart of what we do. We help people identify their competencies, connect with rapid training opportunities, and build clear pathways to meaningful work. This isn’t just about helping individuals; it’s about strengthening the workforce and driving the kind of productivity that benefits everyone. As Minister Piccini said, "We can’t afford to passively inherit the economy we have—we have to actively build the one we want." We’ve already seen success in building #demand-driven talent pipelines and connecting people to industries that need them most. Whether it’s mining, healthcare, or other key sectors, we’re ready to support organizations in addressing workforce challenges and meeting demand. Reach out to start a conversation. #ToolsOfTheTrade #ONpoli #SkilledTrades #FutureofWork

Why We're Not Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week (keep reading)! At FutureFit AI, we believe in the transformative power of apprenticeships to build careers and bridge skills gaps. However, instead of simply celebrating National Apprenticeship Week, we are affirming our commitment to championing and scaling apprenticeships everyday. At the same time, we are reflecting on what needs to evolve to ensure apprenticeships reach their full potential and create lasting impact: 1️⃣ Apprenticeships Need Year-Round Commitment. Real impact demands sustained focus - not just a week. Are apprenticeships a priority in April? June? August? For us, they are. 2️⃣ The System Still Falls Short. Yes, apprenticeships can change lives. But too many people are still left behind. Unequal access to resources, misaligned programs, and insufficient funding hold the system back. That’s not something to celebrate - yet. 3️⃣ It’s About Results, Not Keeping Up Appearances. We care about real progress: creating meaningful work, measurable impact, and scalable solutions that benefit individuals and employers alike. Awareness is good, but action is what truly matters. As we look beyond National Apprenticeship Week, we are focused on building tools, systems, and partnerships to make apprenticeships a scalable, accessible pathway to opportunity for more workers year over year. We're excited to celebrate a future where apprenticeships are a true and real solution to bridging talent gaps, not just a buzzword. #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #Apprenticeships #NAW2024 #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureOfWork

🚀 Late update, but worth the wait! 🚀 A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending the Accelerate Conference in beautiful Victoria, BC—a gathering of incredible minds focused on learning and workforce development. A massive thank you to Curtis and D. Scott bringing together such an inspiring community of practice. 🙌 It was wonderful reconnecting with old friends like Sydney, Mike, and Mark, and making new ones like Jessica, Darian Kovacs ♾️ and Jason Dennison —the kind of connections that remind us why we do this work. Highlights? Too many to list, but here are a couple that stuck with me: ✨ Diana Stephenson shared the incredible transformation journey of BC Hydro, providing inspiration for how organizations can align with communities, Indigenous Nations, and stakeholders to lead meaningful change. ✨ Paul Healy’s Skillnet Ireland example blew me away. Skillnet is redefining workforce development with its industry-led ethos, strong regional presence, and innovative funding models like Ireland's National Training Fund. Whether it’s creating AI post-grad programs in months or turning "robot displacement" into new job opportunities through co-bots, SkillNet is a global model for how skills can drive innovation and equity. From discussions on green skills to creating a social license for AI adoption, this conference left me excited about the future of workforce development—especially as we build similar pathways here in Canada. To Curtis, D. Scott, and everyone who shared their insights: thank you for the inspiration. The work continues! 🌟 #FutureOfWork #WorkforceDevelopment #LearningInnovation #Accelerate2024
