Updates

  • This week, Frederick took a significant step forward as local leaders joined Governor Wes Moore and state officials to mark two pivotal events: the signing of a new Executive Order to strengthen Maryland’s business climate and the groundbreaking for the Frederick Hotel and Conference Center! This Executive Order is designed to make Maryland more competitive by: - Streamlining the permitting process - Implementing a coordinated, all-of-government strategy to prioritize high-potential economic sectors - Enhancing collaboration between local governments and private sector leaders The Frederick Hotel and Conference Center has been a top advocacy priority for the Chamber, and this announcement reflects the power of persistence and partnerships. This project is a prime example of how advocacy can drive tangible results, bringing jobs, economic opportunity, and a vital new asset to our community. With this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger, more competitive Maryland, paving the way for growth and success across the state.

  • 🌟 Important Update on the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) 🌟 For the past year, the we have been working diligently to keep our members and the local business community informed about the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and the requirement for most companies to file Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) with the U.S. Treasury Department by January 1, 2025. However, last Tuesday brought a major development: A Texas federal court issued a nationwide injunction that halts the implementation of the CTA, including the BOI filing requirement. While this means the disclosure deadline and potential penalties are temporarily suspended, the U.S. Treasury Department is expected to oppose the injunction, so this situation is far from resolved. We are closely monitoring these developments and will continue to keep you updated with the latest information as it becomes available. ➡️ Stay tuned for updates and reach out to us if you have questions about how this may impact your business.
