A community free of hunger
About us
The Food Bank of Delaware, a member of Feeding America, formerly America’s Second Harvest – The Nation’s Food Bank Network, is a statewide nonprofit agency whose vision is a community free of hunger. Originally founded in 1981 as the Food Conservers, Inc., the Food Bank of Delaware has provided food assistance to Delawareans at risk of hunger for more than 25 years. Our vision is a community free of hunger. We work to achieve this by: - Providing low- and no-cost food to qualified feeding programs throughout the greater Delaware region; - Informing the greater Delaware community about hunger issues and food security; - Mobilizing support for anti-hunger efforts; - Training and empowering under- and unemployed individuals to fill needed positions within the food service industry; - And developing and implementing statewide feeding programs to assist low-income families, individuals and children.

While we aren't in prime growing season, there is still a lot happening at the Milford Garden! Yesterday, volunteers helped bag sweet potatoes, spread straw over our garlic and strawberry beds and disassembled the trellising from last season’s field tomatoes! Want to lend a hand? Volunteers are needed in the Milford garden on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in January! Learn more and sign up by visiting https://lnkd.in/efj9E5tT

We are lucky to have an amazing board of directors. One those members, Corie Priest (pictured left), has a deep connection to the Food Bank of Delaware. In the 80s and 90s, his family helped rescue food from then Happy Harry's (now Walgreens). When their family needed food, some of those donations helped them, too. Corie now serves as a shining example of someone who benefited from a second chance. He was incarcerated, and then faced the challenges associated with reentering society. Corie uses his lived experience to help make others' lives better as the Community Engagement Program Administrator for the Delaware Department of Justice. That experience is also valuable as he helps shape Food Bank programming and policy. We are so lucky to have Corie in our corner! Thank you Dot Foods for making a recent donation of shelf-stable items. The donation included easy-to-prepare food and snacks! This week, our Benefits Outreach team packed the items in meal kits and distributed them, plus other resources, to unhoused individuals in Wilmington. Pictured here is part of the team - Aubrie, Michelle and Megan! Together, they help Delawareans sign up for a variety benefits and connect them with resources!

We had a great time celebrating our Kitchen School alumni last night! There was lots of dancing, high fives and celebration of friendship. Since starting the program in Fall 2022, we have graduated close to 100 students and are thrilled to be able to offer this training program to Delaware adults with disabilities! #delaware #training #foodbanks
