🚨 The Reading Crisis in LAUSD: A Call to Action 🚨 I had the privilege of being featured in an interview with LA School Report to discuss a pressing issue: the reading crisis facing Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Literacy isn’t just a challenge for educators—it’s a responsibility that falls on all of us as a community. 📚 Key Points We Addressed: -The sobering statistics surrounding literacy in our schools. -The importance of early literacy as a foundation for lifelong success. -How collaborative efforts between schools, families, and community partners are vital to tackling this challenge. I’m proud to lead initiatives like the Read LA! Campaign, which are laser-focused on empowering families, supporting educators, and mobilizing communities to ensure all children have the opportunity to thrive. FIS’s Training and Capacity Building Program Managers Daniela Hernández, Ed.M., and Silvia Torres presented on Creating a Welcoming Environment for the LA Coalition for Excellent Public Schools Network (LACEPS). They engaged in conversations around the 4 types of family-school partnerships and what school & district leaders can do to become partnership schools. Another key topic was Welcoming Environments, specifically the Physical Environments and Policies & Procedures domains, and what is needed for them to succeed. #FamilyEngagement is key to student success!
