Achieving meaningful development impact requires addressing systemic constraints within cultural contexts. Our gender evaluation emphasized that transforming gender equality goes beyond individual projects; it involves tackling the factors that limit the choices and opportunities available to girls and women. Similarly, our recent Learning Crisis #evaluation highlighted the importance of a systems approach to teaching and learning. A comprehensive strategy for #gender equality must address multiple facets: removing barriers to girls' #education, improving learning outcomes, and enhancing economic opportunities for young women as they transition from school to the workforce.
The World Bank’s support for gender equality has driven significant progress, expanding gender-relevant projects across sectors and addressing a broader range of gender inequalities. Our evaluation of a decade’s worth of World Bank support to #GenderEquality also identifies critical issues to be addressed and offers guidance for adopting a more strategic, outcome-focused approach. These lessons can inform the implementation of the World Bank’s ambitious, new gender strategy.
