One of my favourite things about living in Cambridge is having the Cambridge University Library right on my doorstep.
Which is one of 6 legal deposit libraries in the UK.
Which means publishers are legally required to deposit copies of their publications with the library, and the Cambridge University Library is somewhat unique among the legal depositories in keeping a large portion of its collection on open access.
Which means if I want to remind myself of what Everett Rogers had to say on Early Adopters in his book "Diffusion of Innovations" then I can follow the directions from the online catalogue "University Library South Wing 5 follow signs to South Staircase, Fifth Floor 200.c.98.548 " and pull a copy directly off the shelf to read.
And why am I reading Rogers? Well as I hope you know, I have been working for Enso Analytics for almost a year now.
Enso Analytics is a self-service data prep and analysis platform designed for teams who spend their day making sense of data. It transforms complex processes into repeatable workflows, saving the average user 7 hours a week. Enso Analytics also enables users to unlock and explore their data in ways they can only imagine.
We launched a general availability product at Big Data LDN in September. Which means we are entering a new phase of Rogers' categorisation of adopters: moving from the Innovators to the Early Adopters; and from the experience we have had at previous software companies we know how important these early adopters will be in shaping the product. Providing feedback on what works, what doesn't work, what's good and what we can do to make things great. This is what Rogers has to say about early adopters:
"This adopter category, more than any other, has the greatest degree of opinion leadership in most social systems. Potential adopters look to early adopters for advice and information about the innovation. The early adopter is considered by many as "the individual to check with" before using a new idea. This adopter category is generally sought by change agents to be a local missionary for speeding the diffusion process"
If you think this could be you, we are looking for companies to apply to be part of the Enso Analytics Founders Club.
