IKEA and other leaders in medium- and heavy-duty vehicle electrification are proving that transportation electrification isn't a sacrifice; EVs' lower operating and maintenance costs generate savings over time, allowing businesses to expand while bolstering American national and economic security.

Last week, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $735 million of Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle (CHDV) awards to help states deploy Class 6 and 7 zero-emission school buses and vocational vehicles. The Southeastern states of Georgia and Florida were among the awardees, receiving $3 million and $16 million, respectively. Georgia’s funding will deploy 11 vocational vehicles in the City of Atlanta with electric models, while Florida’s funding includes $7.5 million for 25 electric school buses at Duval County Public Schools, $835,000 for three vocational vehicles in The City of Miramar, Florida, and more. https://bit.ly/3Dx93op

On Tuesday, December 17, the EC joined leaders in the rail, trucking, and marine freight industry and communities at the White House for a Sustainable Freight Workshop. As part of the event, the EC’s Ben Prochazka led a discussion on opportunities to improve freight efficiency, create jobs, strengthen our economy, and increase American competitiveness in a global freight system. Coming out of that valuable event, the EC announced an effort to create a new Sustainable Freight Partners Group (SFPG), a nonpartisan, public-private forum for industry, governments, and NGOs to advance low- to zero-emission technologies in the freight sector, including trucking, rail, and marine modalities. The EC will be working to recruit companies and others in the freight ecosystem to build out this initiative. The East Coast states of Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina were among the awardees, receiving $32.5, $2.8, and $8.6 million, respectively. Pennsylvania’s funding will go to the Penn Hills School District for electric school buses, Virginia’s funding—all going towards electric school bus deployment—will be split between Fairfax County Public Schools ($12.9 million), Henrico County Public Schools ($2.9 million), and Roanoke City Public Schools ($16.7 million). Last week, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $735 million of Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicle (CHDV) awards to help states deploy Class 6 and 7 zero-emission school buses and vocational vehicles. The Midwestern states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan were among the awardees, receiving $37.4, $17.8, $9.3, and $4.4 million, respectively. Illinois entities receiving awards include the City of Chicago, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Grayslake Community Consolidated School District, the Illinois State Board of Education, and the Commuter Rail Division of the RTA d/b/a Metra. In Wisconsin, all funding will be deployed to the City of Milwaukee and its public school district. Indiana’s award is for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and Michigan’s will go to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

Today, the EC team met with members of Congress, including Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN) and Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA). We urge Congress to keep EV tax credits and incentives in place to continue creating American jobs and ensuring the US auto industry remains globally competitive!
