Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation reposted this
🎙️ Today, Rhoda Igweta of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) delivered a statement on behalf of the Global Accelerator for Paediatric Formulations Network (GAP-f) partners at the 55th UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB). The statement highlighted the ongoing challenges in providing HIV treatment for children and the critical need to address these gaps. 👶🏽 🧒🏽 Despite significant progress, children living with #HIV still face lower rates of viral suppression compared to adults, leading to higher mortality and morbidity. 🫗 💊 The statement emphasised the importance of developing and introducing optimal formulations for children to improve their treatment outcomes. 💪🏽 GAP-f partners, including EGPAF, USAID, and the Medicines Patent Pool, are committed to closing this treatment gap by collaborating with various stakeholders across the drug life cycle. This includes the timely transition to child-friendly regimens like paediatric ALD and darunavir/ritonavir oral tablets. 🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/4gaIXpY #BetterMeds4Kids #GlobalHealth #HIV #GAPf #HealthEquity #EndAIDS2030

Last week, EGPAF helped open the new Manyara GBV/VAC One Stop Centre in Tanzania with USAID, Manyara Regional Commissioner, and partners. The Manyara GBV/VAC One Stop Centre is a vital establishment that will provide a comprehensive range of services for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against children (VAC). By offering post-GBV/VAC care—including psychosocial support, legal assistance, and health services—the center aims to serve the diverse communities of Manyara and its neighboring regions. This work is made possible by the USAID Afya Yangu (“My Health”) Northern project.

How can young advocates make an impact? Last week at 3rd International Pediatric HIV Symposium in Africa (IPHASA), Emmanuel Mukama shared his experience empowering youth to drive change in HIV response. Emmanuel is a dedicated youth advocate and a member of the EGPAF Committee of African Youth Advisors (CAYA) volunteering in south west Uganda. He works tirelessly to make the voices of youth louder and to reduce the challenges that children face in his village. He shared a moving story about helping an 8-year-old, struggling with challenges at home, to access HIV testing and treatment. The child had over time consistently struggled with medication adherence. By engaging several parties, including the child's guardian, Emmanuel successfully reinstated the child on life-saving treatment. His story demonstrated the power of advocacy coupled with compassion and the vital role of youth leadership.
