About us
The Economic Growth Institute leverages the University of Michigan's resources, research, technologies, and expertise to foster innovation and create positive economic impact for local, state, national, and global communities and economies by working with small and medium-sized enterprises. The institute's professional staff, researchers, and student research associates have engaged companies and communities across the region for over 35 years. Supported by federal and state economic development programs, the institute has provided funding sponsors with a return on investment of 10x to 45x. Our work includes business and technical support to 800 small and medium-sized companies, primarily manufacturing and high-tech. Our programs have helped create or preserve 52,883 blue and white collar jobs, we have worked with 150+ companies launching new technical products, and our engagements have supported companies in attracting of $400+ million of capital and revenue. We have collaborated with over 100 university partners in business assistance programming or research. We have conducted 23 economic development opportunity and best practices research studies, and worked with hundreds of communities to help them revitalize their economies. Students play an integral role in all our projects. Our mission includes providing students with unmatched hands-on experiences that will challenge them, expand their capabilities, and prepare them for their careers.
