📢 A fantastic opportunity for ECOPS to join the OceanXplorer, one of the world's most advanced research and exploration vessels, which will host two dedicated training cruises in the first quarter of 2025. ⛴️ The voyages will run from Walvis Bay (Namibia) to Mindelo (Cabo Verde) and from Mindelo to Las Palmas (Spain), with approximate durations of 17 days and 5 days, respectively. Exact dates are anticipated for mid-March but are yet to be confirmed. ✍️ The programme is open to early-career ocean professionals, technicians, postgraduate students (PhD/MSc), and post-doctoral researchers who are over 25 years old, nationals of, and actively engaged in, ocean-related work or studies in developing countries or countries with economies in transition (priority will be given to ECOPs from African countries ECOP AFRICA NODE). 📢 Peace Boat US “Youth for the SDGs” program for the UN Ocean Decade : 2025 Patagonia and Antarctica Voyage Peace Boat US is excited to announce the next "Youth for the SDGs" program onboard the 119th Global Voyage from Ushuaia, Argentina, sailing through the fjords to Antarctica and arriving in Punta Arenas, Chile. As a nonprofit organization, Peace Boat US works to promote a culture of peace and sustainability through educational programs held onboard Peace Boat's ship, the MV Pacific World. In partnership with the United Nations SDG Action Campaign and other key stakeholders, Peace Boat’s activities empower participants, strengthen local capacity for sustainability, and build cooperation beyond borders. 🌊 Bridging Generations for a Sustainable Ocean Future 🌍 🌟 I am thrilled to share our strong teams* latest study which puts intergenerational diversity at the heart of achieving the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. In collaboration with 1,344 Early Career Ocean Professionals from 108 nations, we explored their perspectives on: ✅ Research priorities (spoiler: climate change leads the way 🌡️) ✅ Barriers to engagement ✅ Strategies to build a more inclusive, intergenerational approach to ocean sustainability ❗ Key takeaways: 🔹 Funding and training for interdisciplinary research are essential. 🔹 ECOPs must have a seat at the table—integrating their voices into decision-making spaces is critical for long-term success. 🔹 A dynamic, intergenerational community of practice is needed to keep ideas fresh and impactful beyond 2030.
