Todd Hand and the Knowledge Leaders team outdid themselves. Their yearly forum is the best in the space; Intimate enough that 'real' relationships are formed, and diverse enough to drive intense debates. Structured enough to talk about "topics that matter most", and lax enough that true conversations are had. I learned a ton and was able to spend real time with the best in the business. A few great moments demonstrated in the pictures below: - Sitting with the EPIC Andy Rosen on a flight...I got an uninterrupted meal of his views on the space (in exchange for the meal convo, I didn't talk his ear off the entire flight). - The ElleCap.org female investor meet up and the number of females in attendance generally. Amy Bevilacqua outdid herself and Beth Hollenberg has been a force of nature and was one of the first female execs in edtech. - Spending time with Elise Awwad (outside of meetings!), who started her career as an admissions advisor the same year I did...and is now the President / CEO of DeVry University - and is crushing it. Inspiration. There was no lack of superstars here and over the next couple months - I so look forward to continuing new work with people like John Semel , Susan Gouijnstook , Bart Epstein and so many more. #HigherEd #Edtech #PK12 #ChangingTheWorld

There were 19 men speaking at the conference; and only 1 woman. I opened an invite to a VC's summit, and the picture below was what I saw (names crossed out). At first, I assumed when I scrolled, I would see more women. No. There was only one. I was shocked, baffled and mostly disappointed. A conversation with the VC ensued (email string below - continued in comments). Hoping this serves as a reminder to the VC, founder and start up communities that we have a responsibility to seek out, put up front and lift up more female leaders. Some data: - In 2023, women made up 13.2% of all startup founders. - In 2022, female founders received only 1.9% of all venture capital funding. - In 2023, female founders alone made up 7.1% of all venture capital deals. - In the first half of 2023, only 3.5% of equity investment went to female-led businesses. - In 2020, only 14% of U.S. startups had a female CEO. Small sample of some of the best execs in the business. I would bet on (and I have bet on) anyone in this group. The best part of working with brilliant founders is learning from them. I often hear sentences that sentence that resonate with me….This weeks quote from Max Simon (Hope you don’t mind I’m sharing, Max!) was, “We can’t be in control of the timeline, we can only be in control of the moment”. It was impactful enough for me to share on LI. Hope it resonates with you as well! #Founders #Quotes #Lifelonglearning #edtech #edtechstartups #futureofwork #changinglives. Cc Rob Cohen

Stage 2 Capital ‘s east coast LP meeting was both energizing and educational. The fireside chat with Brian Halligan was inspiring and I felt like I was in a live reading of a Walter Isaacson book.
