When the 2020 derecho tore through Iowa, Alliant Energy’s Marshalltown Solar Garden proved the strength of solar energy. With 9,500 solar panels and battery energy storage, this facility powers 400 homes and provides backup power to 200 more. A representative from Alliant said “The solar garden itself stood up very well to the derecho. The only damage was one piece of metal that was twisted”.
