Grid Deployment Office | U.S. Department of Energy
Government Administration
DOE GDO leads efforts to modernize and upgrade the U.S. electrical grid and critical electricity-generating facilities.
About us
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office (GDO) works to provide electricity to everyone, everywhere by maintaining and investing in critical generation facilities to ensure resource adequacy and improving and expanding transmission and distribution systems. Working in strong partnership with energy sector stakeholders on a variety of grid initiatives, GDO supports the resilience of our Nation’s electric system and deployment of transmission and distribution infrastructure. GDO’s priority is to develop and deploy innovative grid modernization solutions to achieve the Administration’s clean energy goals and mitigate climate change impacts while ensuring the availability of clean, firm generation capacity, like hydropower and nuclear energy. GDO’s work within the Generation Credits, Transmission, and Grid Modernization Divisions will make sure all communities have access to reliable, affordable electricity by leveraging unique authorities to: o Improve resource adequacy by maintaining and investing in critical generation facilities o Support the development of nationally significant transmission lines o Drive transmission and distribution investment to support a resilient and modern grid

The Department of Energy is here to support Puerto Rico’s most vulnerable residents during the island's transition to a more reliable, resilient electric grid. ⚡️ We’ve announced up to $365 million to fund solar & battery installations that will power community healthcare facilities and common areas in multifamily housing. Through the Programa de Comunidades Resilientes, more low-income families will have expanded access to critical services and reliable electricity when and where they need it most. We have come to expect dependable, affordable electricity at the flick of a switch… but some areas of our country have transmission limitations causing people to experience: 💲️ Higher costs ⛈️ Longer and more frequent power outages ⏲️ Delayed access to reliable electricity A National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor (NIETC) is an area of the country where the U.S. Department of Energy has found that people are either currently or expected to be negatively affected by insufficient electricity transmission. To learn more about NIETCs, check out our video: https://lnkd.in/eVY-qrZA

TODAY: We are continuing our efforts to build a more reliable and resilient electric grid with the announcement of three potential National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors (NIETCs) moving to the next phase of the designation process. They include: ⚡️ Lake Erie-Canada Corridor, including parts of Lake Erie and Pennsylvania ⚡️ Southwestern Grid Connector Corridor, including parts of Colorado, New Mexico, and a small portion of western Oklahoma ⚡️ Tribal Energy Access Corridor, including central parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and five Tribal Reservations These potential NIETCs are areas of the country where DOE has determined the lack of adequate transmission harms consumers and the development of transmission would advance important national interests in that area, such as increased reliability and reduced consumer costs. As a next step, DOE is seeking public input on a proposed public engagement framework and scope of analysis for these areas. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/epXftSeK
