About us
Green inside and out, Denver Botanic Gardens is considered one of the top botanical gardens in the United States and a pioneer in water conservation. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Gardens’ living collections encompass specimens from the tropics to the tundra, showcasing a plant palette chosen to thrive in Colorado’s semi-arid climate. The Gardens' dynamic, 24-acre urban oasis in the heart of the city, offers unforgettable opportunities to flourish with unique garden experiences for the whole family – as well as world-class education and plant conservation research programs. Additional sites at Chatfield Farms, a 700-acre wildlife and native plant refuge in Jefferson County; and Mount Goliath, a high-altitude trail and interpretive site on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, extend this experience throughout the Front Range.

It's a Wonderful Herbarium of Fungi 🍄✨🎬 Herbaria and other natural history collections are the basis for all biodiversity science. Next time you pick up medicine at the pharmacy, sit down for a meal, take in a marvelous view or enjoy the shade of a tree on a hot day, remember that much of what makes life wonderful is possible because of plant and fungal herbaria. Herbaria are critical for the study and advancement of agriculture, conservation biology, land management, medicine, invasive species control and climate change resilience. Without these collections we are unable to describe and name species, study where and when organisms live, understand evolutionary processes, or face many of the unknown challenges of the future. Denver Botanic Gardens’ Sam Mitchel Herbarium of Fungi holds over 24,000 specimens representing macrofungi and mushrooms from across the Southern Rockies. It serves as the epicenter for studying fungi in Colorado, bringing together scientists, enthusiasts, students, and anyone who has ever asked “what kind of mushroom is this? Learn more about our natural history collections here: https://bit.ly/3hwZ1Ge BONUS: We are hiring a Head Curator of Natural History Collections!
