Happy Monday, Finally getting a breather after this super busy semester! One of the key career skills I have gained throughout my professional career is celebrating the little wins, because they are often just as important (if not more important) than the big ones! A little win these past couple of weeks is that I have officially finished my first semester here at the amazing Department of Integrated Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University PhD program! It has been awesome to be somewhere that challenges my way of thinking and is making me a better UX researcher and research in general everyday! I have gotten the opportunity to learn from some career and professional role models, so it has been nothing short of fantastic! From learning under the amazing Emily Patterson all about EHRs and growing my knowledge of safety within EHRs , to learning innovative and new ways to tackle generative research from the legendary Liz Sanders, it has been a semester full of learning! I want to thank so many people, as coming from industry, I was worried about my PhD life , but it has been seamless fit! I give a S/O to my advisor Mike Rayo, PhD, for challenging me in various ways while giving me the space to grow! Also want to say thank you to all of the collaborators on various projects for making me feel like a valued member of the teams(to many collaborators to tag)! Lastly ,to all of the members of the Cognitive Systems Engineering Laboratory for making it feel like home! I am lucky to have such a good group of people in my corner. I look forward to a little rest in the up coming weeks, and continuing all of the amazing work going on in our lab going into the year! Can't wait more of what I am working on, as it is exciting to say the least. Congratulations to Professor David Woods! He’s one of the three recipients of the Safety On The Edge Lifetime Achievement Award this upcoming Global Forum. We’d like to recognize his enduring contributions to safety through research, education, and advocacy, which has shaped safety practices and continues to inspire generations. Professor Woods has dedicated over four decades to advancing safety across complex, high-risk industries, beginning with his pivotal work after the 1979 Three Mile Island nuclear accident. He’s led safety advancements across fields like aviation, healthcare, and space exploration, including cultural shifts in healthcare safety and the creation of the National Patient Safety Foundation. Many might recognize his influential book "Behind Human Error", or felt his impact in the field of Resilience Engineering, which he helped build to address the challenges of modern safety systems and technological complexity. Hi everyone, I'd like to share some exciting news about my first publication! It was published for the 2024 HFES - Human Factors and Ergonomics Society ASPIRE conference I attended in September in Phoenix Arizona, where I presented a lecture on the same topic. Published work: https://lnkd.in/gmTvJJRx Incredibly happy to continue this work with my advisor Martijn IJtsma. Our short paper lays out some ideas for envisioning the coordination needs and impact of automation in human-robot systems. We applied our work to a disaster response scenario, as these environments have naturally high uncertainty/complexity and any introduction of automation would need to be thoughtful to be effective. Very happy to talk with anyone about this topic if interested!

I want to share that I’ve started as a Masters Student and Graduate Research Assistant at Cognitive Systems Engineering Laboratory at the Ohio State University! I am super excited to dig deeper into human factors, cognitive systems engineering, systems engineering, and visual analytics design!

Honored to be invited by Denny Yu to speak at Purdue University last thursday about how to facilitate work system resilience as we introduce ChatGPT-based technology into the emergency department to reduce burnout and enhance patient safety during resident signouts.
