Today (12/20) is #InternationalHumanSolidarityDay. Today is a day of celebrating the world's diversity, encouraging initiatives to achieve the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals, reminding governments of the importance of respecting international agreements of human rights, and raising awareness of how #Solidarity and #HumanRights are necessary. Join us in observing this important day, and know that through solidarity, we are all stronger and can work to eradicate the overwhelming poverty, human rights violations, and international insecurity that affect so many in these difficult times.

As we wrap up the year, we had the opportunity to visit Nyandonge village for a follow-up, where we met with Isaiah. Isaiah has been one of our most dedicated farmers, consistently #experimenting with and #adopting the technologies we introduce. During our visit, Isaiah shared how he has successfully implemented #agroecological practices on his farm. He produces #farmyard #manure from both animal and plant waste, using it to cultivate a wide range of vegetables, which he sells to support his family. Reflecting on this year, we are deeply inspired by the farmers like Isaiah, who have embraced these technologies and are committed to transforming their lives from simply surviving to truly thriving. As an organization, we place a strong emphasis on #relationship-building and #helping communities generate steady income through agricultural #diversification. Our approach of starting by #understanding the unique #aspirations of individual farmers has proven to be effective. We are incredibly #grateful for your support in making this year such a success. Thank you for your #donations, #partnerships, and invaluable #advice on how we can continue to serve our communities better. Wishing you a joyful holiday season!

Rose has depended on her one-acre maize farm for years, but recent challenges are making it harder to sustain. While she once harvested 26 bags per season, this year she’s down to just 4 bags, and fears the harvest will be even lower. A major issue is the widespread infestation of Striga weed, which has stunted her maize growth. Rising production costs—seeds, fertilizers, and labor—are making farming unsustainable. Inspired by farmers like Rose, are keen to expand our outreach to resource-constrained smallholder farmers who are pushing the needle to ensure food security and their household well-being. Starting next year, we’ll work with Rose and her women’s group to implement better farm management practices for a more sustainable future. #FarmersFirst #SustainableAgriculture #CreatsInternational #Wearethecreators #Wemakeithappen

Today we visited Kanyandho farmers group in Konuonga Kotieno location and began something new—a bold step into uncharted territory of watermelon farming. Before this, Kanyandho farmers group tried their hands in horticulture, cultivating vegetables like kales, beetroot, spinach among others. After deliberations, the group decided to diversify their crops in response to the changing climate. Watermelon, with its high market demand and potential profitability, seemed like a promising choice. Today we started with reviewing the planting process, optimal spacing, and the importance of maintaining soil moisture—essential for the success of watermelon. Together, we dug the first planting holes, carefully placing seeds with the fertilizer. We are glad farmers trust us and are willing to try something new together. We are excited about the future as we learn and improve together!

#CommunityCare starts with #SelfCare. As our attention spans dwindle, we face greater stress, anxiety, and decreasing #MentalHealth. We must take care of ourselves so that we can make the positive impacts that our world desperately needs. Learn more about how #ClimateChange is affecting your community and other international communities via the links below. It is difficult to face this reality, but you can make a difference. The attention span data is from Gloria Mark's "Attention Span: A Groundbreaking Way to Restore Balance, Happiness and Productivity."
