Senate Republicans Welcome McMahon, the House Elects a New Education Chair Last week, in a round of introductory visits, Senate Republicans welcomed nominee Linda McMahon to Capitol Hill to discuss her vision as President-Elect Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education. Upon her confirmation, she is expected to oversee and steer Trump’s education-related campaign promises which in short are to halve the U.S. Department of Education’s budget, expand school choice, and revoke the Biden Administration Title IX regulations. Incoming Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) will lead McMahon’s nomination hearing -whose date is not yet set. Pivoting to the House, that body’s Leadership Committee has appointed Rep. Tim Wahlberg (R-MI) to serve as the new Chairman of the House Education and Workforce Committee. Upon the announcement, Wahlberg stated that he has “served for sixteen years…and sought four waivers to stay [on the Committee] …that says something about my passion for this committee.” Regarding his priorities for the coming two years, he has publicly indicated that his top goals are to bolster school choice, make college more affordable, enhance apprenticeships and internships, and pass a bipartisan short-term Pell Grant bill.

Students Deserve Effective Communication We are Leading the Charge to Protect and Advance the Rights of Students As featured in Special Ed Connection, COPAA played a leading role in four out of the five Top 5 Cases for Effective Communication under the ADA. This area is just one of the many in which our members are at the forefront of vindicating the civil rights of children with disabilities: The Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) requires that public entities, including school districts, “take appropriate steps to ensure that communications with applicants, participants, members of the public, and companions with disabilities are as effective as communications with others.” 28 C.F.R. § 35.160. We’re so proud of what we’re accomplishing this year and there is so much work to do! Being part of this community means financially supporting the work and keeping more work happening. We are asking our members, attorneys, advocates and families to give generously and take a stand for student and parent rights. Donate to keep this work going! - https://lnkd.in/eUs7m6gw
