CLF forges lasting solutions for New England's most critical environmental challenges.
About us
Since 1966, Conservation Law Foundation has used the law, science, policymaking, and the business market to find pragmatic, innovative solutions to New England’s toughest environmental problems. Whether that means cleaning up Boston Harbor, protecting ocean fisheries to ensure continued supply, stopping unnecessary highway construction in scenic areas, or expanding access to public transportation, we are driven to make all of New England a better place to live, work, and play. What’s more, we have the toughness to hold polluters accountable, and the tenacity to see complex challenges through to their conclusion. CLF is also nimble enough to adjust course as conditions change to achieve the best outcomes. Our goal is not to preserve what used to be, but to create an even better New England — a region that’s truly thriving.

President-elect Trump has made no secret that he intends to unravel the progress the IRA has made. He has called climate change “a hoax” and vowed to “…rescind all unspent funds under the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act.” But is it just that simple? Can he rescind the remaining IRA funds? Here’s what we believe is most likely to happen regarding the most extensive climate legislation the country has ever passed:

"On behalf of every family and business affected by extreme weather, I demanded accountability and accuracy from our government. We can’t allow Vermont leaders to cut corners. Not when those corners mean sacrificing our way of life and opportunities for future Vermonters."

I'm excited to share that we've closed on our Healthy Neighborhoods Equity Fund II investment with Peyser Real Estate Group to develop Dexter Street Commons, a mixed-use development in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This transit-oriented development will be a great addition to the Pawtucket community, and I'm proud that CLF is playing a role in it alongside our partners at MHIC! https://lnkd.in/eiRP5bgk

This report shows that there is a path to close the funding gaps – a way forward that protects our communities and their wallets.” Seth Gadbois, CLF Staff Attorney

If Trump’s past presidency is prologue for his next, climate and environmental wins will remain in reach even if harder to achieve. This is a time to double down, not back down, in our fight for a healthy environment and climate.

Vermont’s Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) released a draft plan to stop industrial farm pollution and improve clean water permitting and enforcement. While the plan is a first step, it will not adequately protect Vermont’s iconic waters from the excess phosphorus that continues to cause them to be overrun with toxic algae.

Say hello to the 2nd North Atlantic right whale calf of the season! This baby is one of fewer than 400 right whales left in the world. Let's protect right whale migration paths so calves like this make it to their first birthday:
