Today, the U.S. Foundation for International Conservation Act is taking a big step for conservation and economic development. This bipartisan effort will create a new public-private partnership, providing up to $100 million in federal funding each year, with private donors contributing two dollars for every federal dollar. This bill is the result of tireless efforts from Conservation International, our partners at the Rob Walton Foundation, Nia Tero, the Bezos Earth Fund, and bipartisan leadership. If signed into law, this legislation would provide a key pathway for financing global conservation projects to build a more prosperous future. Conservation International CEO Dr. M Sanjayan released the following statement: “The U.S. Foundation for International Conservation creates a new model for global development assistance and wildlife conservation. As an independent charitable organization it will also benefit from the oversight of select Cabinet officials, private donors and other experts on its governing board as it works to swiftly and efficiently address nature loss and wildlife trafficking, strengthen U.S. leadership, and promote stability in fragile regions.…This bipartisan effort underscores how protecting nature secures global stability and reinforces the United States’ role as a leader in conservation and diplomacy. Conservation remains a unifying force with the power to shape a more stable future for all of us.” READ HIS FULL STATEMENT HERE>>>

We're thrilled to share this inspiring moment from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16Riyadh), where Conservation International (CI) introduced the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) GEF-8 Ecosystem Restoration Integrated Program. The side event highlighted how an innovative partnership model—uniting finance and policy—can help us scale restoration efforts globally. Initiatives like this are a beacon of hope, showing that collective action can address desertification, support communities, and protect our planet for future generations. Check out this video to learn more about how we’re turning ambition into action! #GlobalPartnerships #UNCCDCOP16 #LDN #sustainability #climateaction #restoration

Around the world, Conservation International’s Surf Conservation Program is working with communities to protect waves and their surrounding ecosystems. In Sumba, Indonesia, Konservasi Indonesia and our Surf Conservation colleagues recently hosted a surf conservation camp for kids from nearby villages that we’re working with on these very efforts. Their goal: foster a love for surfing and the ocean that will help bring new energy and longevity to local conservation efforts.

How can we protect biodiversity, support local people, and fight climate change? Nature. Through collaboration with local communities, we’re working to conserve Mt. Mantalingahan in the Philippines and protect over 120,000 hectares of the landscape, its rich biodiversity, and the ancestral forests of the Indigenous Pala'wan communities. By conserving, restoring and improving how forests are managed, projects like this increase carbon storage and reduce emissions, while benefitting local livelihoods and biodiversity. In fact, forests can provide at least a third of the solution to climate change, but only a fraction of climate finance is directed toward natural solutions. With support from partners, like Procter & Gamble, we can continue to invest in nature’s power to protect our planet. 🌱 #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateAction #MtMantalingahan Conservation International Asia-Pacific

Today at the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Conference and Trade Fair hosted by the Liberia Ministry of Commerce in Monrovia, Conservation International-Liberia Director of Blue Oceans Program Mike Izava delivered introductory remarks on the central role that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play in Liberia’s economy, while also providing vital livelihoods that help address the biggest challenge of our time: Climate change. “Liberia’s SMEs are embracing climate adaptation in inspiring ways. Consider a fisheries cooperative in Buchanan that seeks to integrate solar-powered refrigeration systems to reduce post-harvest losses. This innovation not only cuts costs but also ensures sustainable fishing practices, safeguarding both livelihoods and vital marine biodiversity – mangroves…By enhancing SME resilience, we protect Liberia’s natural assets and capital, in lush rainforests, mangroves to marine ecosystems, which are vital for carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation.” Later in the day, Conservation International Director of West and Central Africa Program Delivery Roger EMMOU joined the “Fostering Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism to Boost MSMEs Growth and Job Creation” panel, highlighting the need to promote and restore nature as it relates to tourism and stimulating the local economy sustainably. Keep an eye out tomorrow. Conservation International-Liberia staff will be back at the MSMEs Conference and Trade Fair, exploring innovations, partnerships, and progress in adaptation-focused enterprises that will help foster a future where economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand.

Today at #COP16Riyadh, the Freshwater Challenge celebrated important milestones: President of the Global Environment Facility Carlos Manuel Rodriguez announced $5 million in funding that will funnel to 50 members of the world’s largest ever freshwater restoration and protection initiative. We are grateful to the GEF for this vial investment which will accelerate action by addressing some of the most critical needs and challenges identified by the Member countries to tackle the world’s water crises. Conservation International is a core partner of the Freshwater Challenge – the most ambitious country-led initiative in history to safeguard freshwater ecosystems and the services they provide to people. It aims to support, integrate and accelerate the restoration of 300,000 km of degraded rivers and 350 million hectares of degraded wetlands by 2030, as well as conserve intact freshwater ecosystems. We are proud to be a part of this new $5 million effort and contribute to working groups guiding resource mobilization, technical assistance and private sector engagement. LEARN MORE:
