Confluence Ballet Company was established in early 2021 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Founder’s Concept:
"The name is drawn from Pittsburgh’s rivers. Two rivers meet here to become one. Confluence dance Theatre is a group of dancers, all with unique artistic voices, who come together to create new work. The company was founded out of a desire to give artistic voices to those who have been marginalized by the mainstream dance community and those who wish to find their own voice artistically.
Confluence was created to be a safe space for ALL dancers, regardless of weight, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity. I personally felt excluded from the classical ballet world as a queer, Black woman and wanted to create a space of radical inclusivity, where we could rebuild the image of ballet in a way that included all dancers. I wanted a space where dancers could dance at their highest level without sacrificing who they are at their core."
~ Moselle Haney, Founder
Vision:
A world where ballet is a beacon of inclusivity for both artists and audiences, celebrated for its transformative social impact. In this world, ballet artists are empowered to create and perform works that reflect a rich confluence of diverse perspectives, embodying the full spectrum of human experience.
Mission:
Sustain a radically inclusive sanctuary for artists with diverse perspectives, empowering them to thrive. Through the education, innovation, and performance of ballet, we aim to build a more inclusive community for artists and audiences alike.
