The Environmental Affinity Group of the community foundation recently held an event at Yellow Barn Farm to learn from representatives from Boulder County’s Office of Sustainability, Climate Action, and Resilience (OSCAR), the Flatirons Farmers Coalition's Flatirons Foodshed Partnership, and Community Foundation Boulder County. Panelists and attendees discussed climate change in Boulder County, trends we’re seeing in our community, and opportunities to support farmers in Boulder County. Thank you to everyone who attended to close out another year of learning and action in support of our local environment.

This month on KGNU Community Radio's A Public Affair, Jim Williams was joined in the studio by Community Foundation Boulder County Vice President of Programs, Sarah Harrison, and Executive Director of the Early Childhood Council of Boulder County, Kaycee Headrick. They talked about the importance of data and how local nonprofits can use data to inform their work. We also learned more about the work of the Early Childhood Council of Boulder County, how they use data in their work, and what they’re seeing in their data on childcare accessibility and affordability in Boulder County. This Veterans Day, in addition to thanking the thousands of Veterans who call Boulder County home, we want to highlight TRU Community Care, a 2024 Veterans Fund grantee making a difference in the lives of Boulder County Veterans seeking care. For almost 5 decades, TRU Community Care has been serving Boulder County seniors by offering exceptional hospice care, including services like their We Honor Veterans (WHV) program. TRU has been a WHV partner with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization since 2011, and a level 5 WHV partner — the top tier of recognition to organizations from WHV — since 2020. We Honor Veterans focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment of Veterans, especially Veterans living with chronic illness or terminal illness. Happy Halloween from Community Foundation Boulder County! This year, we were gifted with a volunteer pumpkin plant in our courtyard. After discovering the plant growing a lone pumpkin this summer, our Operations Manager David did not hesitate to don his cowboy hat and add “courtyard pumpkin farmer” to his resume. Thanks to his efforts, the community foundation has a beautiful pumpkin to decorate our front lobby with as we celebrate Halloween and ring in the harvest season!
