Among families who access food pantries in Chicago, one-third have a family member with diabetes and over half have a family member with high blood pressure. When you’re on a fixed income or don’t have a stable source of food, how do you decide between your health or your next meal? At Common Pantry we prioritize nutrition not only through the healthy food offered in our hot lunch or grocery distribution but by creating a nutrition education program that allows for folks to receive the information they need most to make decisions that are best for their families. Addressing food insecurity can’t be about providing only food when folks who are the most vulnerable have chronic diseases at higher rates. Earlier this year we expanded upon our priority of providing nutritious food by launching our Nutrition Education Program, which includes cooking classes and demos, take home nutrition resources, ready-to-eat prepared meals and more. Common Pantry is committed to helping our guests learn more about the benefits of the food we eat so they can feel empowered to lead healthy lives. But we can't do this crucial work without you. Give today to help meet our guests where they are and provide the resources they need most. And just like that we are nominated as the Best Food Relief Effort in the Chicago Reader's Best of 2024. We would be honored if you chose to vote for us (under the Food & Drink Category) here: https://lnkd.in/gCkxFXnN. PLUS it only take two minutes to vote and would mean the world to us. And please spread the word (if you do think we're the best) and share with others! #bestof2024 #chicagoreader #bestfoodreliefeffort #nonprofit

Common Pantry was fortunate to receive a generous grant from Jewel-Osco Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors Program. The funds will be so helpful in connecting our neighbors with federal meal programs and continuing the fight against hunger. Thanks Jewel-Osco for helping us nourish our neighbors. #NourishingNeighbors #partnership #strategy #philanthropy #nonprofit

Jean has been visiting Common Pantry for nearly 10 years, initially coming for groceries and a hot meal while being on a fixed income. Now she attends our cooking classes, a part of our newly launched Nutrition Education Program, to learn about nutrition and ways to improve her health that she otherwise would struggle to access. For this Giving Tuesday, give towards providing access to healthy food, fighting hunger and empowering our guests with resources to lead healthy lives. We might be biased but we are delighted to highlight that our Executive Director Margaret O'Conor was recently presented with Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce's inaugural Raven Award as a Community Leader. Margaret has led Common Pantry since 2018, navigating the organization through a pandemic, responding to the increase in demand with grace, transitioning the organization to a new location as while growing the organization in more ways than one. While our community knows firsthand the kind of leader that Margaret is we are glad that her accomplishments are recognized by the larger community for a much deserved award. Congratulations Margaret!! #communityleader #leadership #nonprofitleader #nonprofit

Attention!! We need some extra help making sure we have enough turkeys for everyone. Please consider buying a turkey (or two) and dropping it off at the pantry on Thurs (11/21) from 2:30-5pm, Fri (11/22) from 4-5:30pm, or Mon (11/25) from 9-11:30am OR do your holiday shopping at one of our partner Jewel-Oscos (Roscoe/Western or Lincoln) and donate at checkout. Let's make sure that all our neighbors can have a happy holiday! #community #partnerships #holidayseason #nonprofit

Last week our long time partners Paul Hastings invited us to their first year associate training where we were able to present about the work we do in Chicago. The associates also created 720 personal hygiene kits, full of toiletry items that we can provide to our guests the next time they shop. Partnerships like this one are critical to move our mission forward and grateful when it is full of intention to create a meaningful experience for all involved. #partnerships #strategy #philanthropy #CorporateSocialResponsibility #nonprofit
