  • 🌍📊 Today, we’re excited to release our annual report on funding trends in climate change mitigation philanthropy.   In this year’s report, we find that philanthropic funding for climate mitigation increased significantly in 2023, outpacing the growth in overall global philanthropic giving for the first time since 2020. However, sustained climate progress will require much more action and funding. This year’s report covers foundation funding data from 2019 to 2023. Key findings include: 🔹 Annual foundation funding for climate mitigation nearly tripled between 2019 and 2023.  🔹 Emerging areas include sustainable finance (which was the fastest-growing enabling strategy for climate mitigation funding) and efforts to reduce emissions from super pollutants like methane (which was the fastest-growing sector).  🔹 Low-to-middle-income countries receive much lower levels of flexible or core funding for climate mitigation. Ultimately, this report provides insights on the evolution of climate philanthropy, emerging trends, and ways to support bold climate action. 💡 Let’s make 2025 the year we step up climate ambition together.  📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/gQnn5tT4 #ClimateAction #Philanthropy #ClimateChange #FundingTrends2024

A new report from ClimateWorks Foundation reveals that philanthropic funding for climate mitigation increased significantly in 2023, outpacing the growth in overall global philanthropic giving for the first time since 2020. However, sustained climate progress will require much more action and funding. This year’s #FundingTrends2024 report covers five years of foundation funding data from 2019 to 2023.  Key insights include:  🔹Annual foundation funding for climate mitigation nearly tripled from 2019 to 2023.   🔹 Low-to-middle-income countries receive much lower levels of flexible or core funding for climate mitigation.  🔹 Adaptation and resilience initiatives gained momentum, receiving at least $600 million in 2023.  Philanthropy must adopt climate strategies with the urgency, intensity, and coordination needed for bold climate action. [EN/ES] 🌍 ClimateWorks Foundation Launches New Report on Climate Philanthropy The Funding Trends 2024: Climate Change Mitigation Philanthropy report has recently been released, offering key insights into funding trends in climate philanthropy. It reveals a positive trend: foundation funding for climate mitigation nearly tripled from $1.7 billion in 2019 to at least $4.8 billion in 2023. While this is a significant increase, the analysis also highlights that climate mitigation funding still represents less than 2% of total philanthropic giving. While progress in climate mitigation funding is encouraging, the report also underscores a critical gap: investments in climate adaptation and resilience remain far lower. A first-of-its-kind survey conducted by ClimateWorks Foundation revealed that funding for adaptation activities reached just $600 million in 2023. 🔎This highlights the urgent need to implement the report’s key recommendations: - Unlock the catalytic and collaborative potential of philanthropy - Invest deeply in capacity development and core support - Embrace holistic, integrated climate solutions that combine mitigation, adaptation, and resilience to create effective, long-term responses to the climate crisis.

"The growth in climate funding is a positive step, but the stakes couldn’t be higher. As the global landscape becomes more complex and the planet continues to overheat, #philanthropy has a critical role to play in catalysing transformative #ClimateAction in a way that is resilient to political shifts and focused on what people need most: economic and development opportunities, health and security, and a livable planet. By acting boldly and collaboratively, philanthropy can bridge divides and help build a sustainable and equitable future for all." - Helen Mountford, President and CEO, ClimateWorks Foundation Our #FundingTrends2024 report explores three ways philanthropy can rise to the challenge. ⬇️ 🔹 Work collaboratively: Join forces with other funders to amplify collective impact. 🔹 Back grantees to win: Provide general operating and multi-year funding to help grantees scale and build resilience. 🔹 Think holistically: Support climate solutions that integrate intersectional issues like public health, economic development, and social justice Download the report to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gabxE5ty

🎉 Good news for climate: Philanthropic giving to climate is up 20%. 🎉 And good news for industry decarbonisation: philanthropic giving on this topic reached $130 million in 2023, up from only $45 million in 2019. 🚗+🏭 But transportation and industry together still only attract about 6.5% of climate philanthropic giving, when they represent 40% of global emissions. 🪙 For all of us working in this space, it means we are relying on few philanthropic dollars to keep 1.5C or even well-below 2C alive! Thank you Helen M. and ClimateWorks Foundation for keeping track of progress every year!

📢 Philanthropic giving to climate ⬆️ 20% Last year, philanthropic funding for climate mitigation grew by 20%—a very encouraging step up. Yet, as ClimateWorks Foundation’s latest #FundingTrends2024 report highlights, the journey is far from complete. The report underscores some key trends: -Annual foundation funding for climate mitigation has nearly tripled since 2019. -For the first time ever, we’re able to share preliminary data on adaptation and resilience initiatives, which received at least $600 million dedicated last year and is on track for more this year. -However, low-to-middle-income countries continue to face significant gaps in funding, especially flexible and core funding which is most needed. Philanthropy holds unique power: at it’s best, it can take risks, act boldly and nimbly, and catalyze transformative change. Whether through collaborative initiatives ready to deliver solutions at scale or by backing local solutions and partners who know what is needed, we have the tools to accelerate impact. The challenge ahead is clear—and so is the opportunity. Let’s meet this moment with urgency, collaboration, and the ambition needed to deliver climate solutions for all. 🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gF3fEXg4
