They are: Sub-Saharan Africa 6 waste volume is estimated to reach 516 million tons annually by 2050; collection rate is less than 55 percent with a possibility of illegal dumping of uncollected waste while sanitation and public health are threatened by poor collection/sorting, intermediate treatment, recycling and final disposal. Interestingly, with the herald and increase of advocacy on how a Circular Economy can help stem down waste generation and improve the waste management practices, stakeholders in the industry are beginning to explore the opportunities and solutions therein. In March 2024, the idea to establish a regional knowledge network around the topic of regulating waste markets in Africa was identified during the multi-stakeholder Circular Economy Strategy Week, inspired by the Consulate of the Netherlands and the Circular Business Platform. On 3rd October 2024, this regional knowledge network became a reality. The Circular Business Platform (CBP), working with the Waste Management Society Of Nigeria (WAMASON) and by extension its international counterpart - The ISWA International Solid Waste Association with a support of other stakeholders such as the University of Lagos (UNILAG), (E-waste Producer Responsibility Organization of Nigeria(EPRON)) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has established a regional knowledge network for regulating waste markets in Africa to: .
