Increased Funding for the Roads and Bridges of the Hudson Valley was the plea at the press conference held on 12/5 at the Operating Engineers Local 137, lead by Senator Peter Harckham. The Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley along with our partners in organized labor thank, Senators Harckham, Mayer, Assembly Members Burdick, Levenberg, Shimsky and Slater for their continuing and unwavering support of increased funding for our states’ roads and bridges. The $800M increase in the NYS DOT Core Program is necessary to fill the gap caused by unprecedented inflation of over 25% in construction costs since 2022. Further our Hudson Valley Region represented by NYS DOT Region 8 has the worst road and bridge conditions of any region in the state and has had this worst ranking for over 10 years. We thank the entire Hudson Valley delegation of NYS Senators and Assembly members for their support of our efforts last year and look forward to continuing support this year. The motoring public and all citizens of New York State deserve well maintained roads and bridges again we thank Senators Harckham, Mayer, Assembly members Burdick, Levenberg, Shimsky and Slater for their advocacy. #hudsonvalley #westchestercounty NYS Department of Transportation Dana Levenberg Matthew Slater MaryJane Shimsky Chris Burdick Shelley Mayer Ed Cooke INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING ENGINEERS LOCAL 137 WESTCHESTER TEAMSTERS MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES WELFARE FUND LOCAL 456 LABORERS LOCAL 60 New York State Assembly New York State Senate Westchester County

NYS Reduces Workers’ Comp Rate With 22% Decline on Jan. 1, 2025 New York employers will pay 22% less in the annual assessment to run the state’s workers’ compensation system in 2025. The rate assessed on standard premiums will be 7.1% beginning January 1, 2025, down from 9.2% in 2024. The reduction is projected to save employers $191 million, according to the Hochul Administration. The New York Workers’ Compensation Board establishes an assessment rate for all employers based on its estimated annual expenses. Insurers are required to apply the assessment rate to their premium. The assessment supports several special funds, including one that compensates volunteers who were injured or disabled during the World Trade Center rescue, recovery, or clean-up; one that reimburses insurers for certain claims for permanently partially disabled persons; and one that pays benefits for old claims that are reopened. The assessment rate has been steadily declining in recent years, largely due to an accelerating runoff of special fund liabilities. It has gone down more than 40% since 2019, when the assessment rate was 12.6%. The board works to protect the rights of both employees and employers by ensuring the proper administration of workers’ compensation, disability and paid family leave benefits and by promoting compliance with the law. Its duties include hearing claims disputes, assessing penalties and administering the special funds. It maintains nine offices across the state. In neighboring Connecticut, Gov. Ned Lamont announced that businesses in the Nutmeg State will see a 6% rate decrease beginning January 2025. The Connecticut Insurance Department has approved an annual Workers’ Compensation rate filing for 2025 with a decrease of 6.2% in assigned risk plan rates—the 11th consecutive year of approved rate decreases. The trend reflects a continued decline in workplace injuries and filed claims. #NYSworkerscomp New York State Workers' Compensation Board NYS HEALTH PROVIDERS WORKERS COMPENSATION TRUST

Bear Mountain Bridge Marks Centennial With Festivities Spanning Many Interests The 100th anniversary of the first vehicle crossing the Hudson River south of Albany, over the venerable Bear Mountain Bridge, will be celebrated next week, following four months of activities and commemoration. “The Bear Mountain Bridge is truly an icon of the Hudson Valley and New York State,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “The bridge was a remarkable engineering achievement in 1924 and has been a mainstay of our transportation network ever since.” The Bear Mountain Bridge opened to the general public on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 1924. And as a groundbreaking engineering achievement for its time, it was the first suspension bridge with a concrete deck. The 2,255-foot-long bridge cost $2.9 million when it was built, according to the New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA), which now owns it. History shows that when the Bear Mountain Bridge opened to traffic, the crossing was the longest suspension bridge in the world. However, it didn't hold that distinction for long. By 1930 the Mid-Hudson Bridge between Poughkeepsie and Highland opened, followed by the George Washington Bridge opening in 1932. In connection with the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Bear Mountain Bridge, the New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA) has advised the public of events taking place on Sunday, November 24, 2024 to mark the milestone. Motorists are advised to expect delays near the bridge that morning. On that Sunday morning at 10 a.m., a dedication ceremony will be held on the west side of the bridge. Due to space limitations, the event is only open to invited guests. Traffic on the bridge itself will be temporarily shut down during the ceremony. Surrounding roadways will remain open but may experience delays during the mid-morning ceremony. Although the ceremony will be brief, residual delays may occur. The Bridge Authority recommends that the public avoid unnecessary travel across the Bear Mountain Bridge between 9:30 and 11:00 that morning. Later that day, at 3 p.m., the public is invited to the premiere screening of a documentary titled “Bear Mountain Bridge: The First 100 Years” at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill. Information and a link to purchase tickets can be found on the website for Paramount Hudson Valley. The documentary was produced by the non-profit Historic Bridges of the Hudson Valley with SDS Imagery and Tesseract Studios. NYSBA said, the documentary “celebrates the creation, the construction, and most importantly, the operation, care and maintenance of this iconic structure that has enabled the Bear Mountain Bridge to be ready to enter its next hundred years of service to the Hudson Valley.” For more details, visit https://lnkd.in/eiVtehsU #Bearmountainbridge Nys Bridge Authority NYS Department of Transportation
