Traveling after the Thanksgiving holiday? Tune into our latest podcast for a behind-the-scenes look into what made our move to Arthur M. Blank Hospital possible. On Sunday, September 29, 2024, more than 200 patients—including several on advanced life support— traveled in a carefully planned caravan of 65 ambulances from Egleston Hospital to Arthur M. Blank Hospital, marking a historic moment. At the same time, hundreds of employees worked their last shift at the hospital campus that laid the foundation for their careers. Grab a tissue because this episode is as fascinating as it is emotional—and it’s sure to leave you feeling extra thankful for the special people who wear a Children’s badge. This Thanksgiving, Lindsey has something extra special to be thankful for: her sister, Lucy, and the incredible gift of a life-saving kidney. Lucy, Manager of Leadership Development at Children’s, grew up thinking a kidney donation was normal after seeing three close family members undergo six transplants. So, when her sister Lindsey needed a transplant earlier this year, Lucy didn’t hesitate to step up. On August 23, as the sisters arrived at the hospital for the transplant, a Donate Life flag flew in their honor. Thanks to Lucy’s “Olympic kidney,” the organ started working for Lindsey just minutes after the transplant, allowing her to avoid further dialysis. Today, both sisters are fully recovered and ready to celebrate Thanksgiving together—forever bonded by this experience.

Ring that bell, Heather! 🔔 On the last day of treatment for breast cancer, Heather, Director of Clinical Resource Management, rang the bell at her adult treatment facility. Little did she know, her Children’s colleagues were counting down the days alongside her and were planning a surprise celebration, complete with a bell-ringing ceremony. A few days later, she rounded the corner on our Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center floor to see her colleagues and friends. Heather approached the end of treatment bell and rang it proudly while everyone cheered her on.

Did you know we have genetic counselors at Children’s? Follow along as we show you a day in the life of Erin, a genetic counselor within our Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. In her role, Erin works across multiple clinics helping patients and their families learn more about their genetic makeup and history so she can educate them about hereditary cancer risks and screening. Beka’s transition from patient to nurse is a heartwarming story to tell. ❤️ Born with Heterotaxy syndrome, a rare condition affecting the arrangement of the internal organs, Beka underwent life-saving open heart surgery at just six months old. Years later, she returned to Children’s for another major surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. The compassionate care she received along the way inspired her to become a NICU nurse at Egleston—the very same hospital where her journey began. Now, at our new Arthur M. Blank Hospital, Beka brings hope and a healing touch to families going through the same challenges she once faced.
