On the latest Campus Confidential episode, Compass Group sustainability leaders met to talk about the fight for a greener planet and the social responsibility that campus dining holds. 🌍🌱❤️
Who doesn't love a bonus episode? Kelsey Harmon Finn and Loren Rullman, Ph.D. were invited to record #live at NACAS #C3X Climate Action Lab. The conversations focused on the food system, and included guests from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Better Food Foundation, Meat Institute, The Good Food Institute, and leaders from multiple campuses to help us think about the social responsibility campuses have with waste stream, water and energy use, food insecurity, and student demands for climate action. Congratulations to our own Heidi Link, Marketing and Sustainability Manager at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, who has been named a Compass Group Planet Promise Change Maker for her efforts in making the world a greener place 🌍🌍 By hosting plate waste demonstrations and fun upcycling events, she's teaching our guests how to be environmentally friendly. Thank you for your passion for supporting the planet!
Heidi Link, MFood Co’s Marketing and Sustainability Manager is this week’s Planet Promise Change Maker! This past year Heidi has shown true leadership when it comes to sustainability. She has hosted over 16 sustainability-themed events, some highlights below include: • DIY Eco-Friendly Gift Event: Approximately 200 students participated in creating gifts for their loved ones. The gifts included items like secondhand records, which were repurposed as wall art through student decoration, and beeswax tea bags, where students crafted their own personalized tea blends using reusable tea bags. • Plate Waste Study: Heidi, along with her interns, conducted a plate waste study in one of the busiest dining halls on campus. The event featured visible waste scraping stations, allowing students to see the extent of plate waste firsthand. Heidi also introduced plate waste storytelling in the dining halls to educate students on the significance of reducing food waste. A follow-up study pm Stop Food Waste Day in 2024 showed a large reduction in plate waste. “Heidi’s innovative approach to tackling food waste, combining education with hands-on engagement, has set new standards in sustainability practices on campus. Her dedication to making students part of the solution is fostering a culture of environmental responsibility” - Monalisa Prasad, Director of Sustainability, Chartwells Higher Ed Amazing work. Heidi! The Texas A&M University dining team is making sure that everyone in their community can have a meal during the holiday season. ❤️❤️ Thank you for your support in fighting food insecurity! #GigEm
Today we got to donate over 960 pounds of food to our on-campus food pantry, The 12th Can. They do incredible work helping Aggies fight food insecurity in our community and I’m thankful to be apart of a team who is as equally passionate about helping our campus community. 👍🏻

For Native American Heritage Month, we sat down with chef James Palen, executive chef at Missouri University of Science and Technology, who highlighted the important role of food, tradition, and community in commemorating his Native American heritage. Today, he shares with us his cherished practice of crafting Fry Bread, a symbol of resilience and connection, passed down through generations. For him, the process of making Fry Bread is more than cooking - it’s a way to share and honor his heritage, celebrate his family’s traditions, and foster a sense of togetherness that keeps the spirit of his tribe's ancestors alive.
