President Ronald Reagan said it well, “Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they’ve suffered the scars of war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.” Charter salutes, supports, and stands for all those veterans who have served and continue to do so. We are proud to continue supporting these brave men and women as they continue to defend freedom on battlefields at home, abroad, and beyond. #adastra

Insurance of space infrastructure will become a MUST in the next decade. Charter's Ubik OS for space program management will be a crucial platform in providing the underlying data to underwrite space insurance policies. We're proud to have backed Yuk Chi and the team, and can't wait to see them support an explosion of activity in the sector. 🚀 #spacetech #startup

As seen in Payload, we’re solving space insurance 🚀 🛰️ Did you know that about 97% of the ~10,500 active satellites orbiting Earth are uninsured? That’s billions of dollars in technology without a safety net. This lack of insurance not only poses risks but also hampers innovation, with high costs and manual underwriting deterring funding for new ideas. We’re expanding our Ubik operating system—which manages complex space programs for satellite and spacecraft manufacturing—by integrating an AI-powered underwriting tool to automate and simplify underwriting for space insurance policies. Why does this matter? • Lowers Costs: Automating underwriting reduces time and labor, making insurance more affordable. • Fuels Innovation: More companies can secure funding with insurance backing their projects. • Stabilizes the Market: Builds a mutually beneficial environment for both insurers and space companies. We’re planning to launch this in 2025 to bridge the “giant valley of death” between supply and demand in the space insurance market. Interested companies, collaborators, and builders can sign up on our website today to be first in line to get early access! Thank you to Douglas Gorman for covering our big announcement. And thank you to our many friends, partners, and treasured customers for joining us on this journey — you know who you are! The future of space exploration is about to get a whole lot brighter. Ad astra. #Space #SpaceInsurance #SpaceTech #InsurTech #Charter #CharterDares

    Reporter @ Payload

~97% of orbiting satellites–worth about $38B–aren't covered by insurance. In an exclusive on Payload, I spoke with Charter CEO Yuk Chi Chan on how his company plans to automate some of the underwriting process. Ultimately, Charter's new product should open up access to insurance for the bulk of space assets that are currently flying around without a financial safety net. A little insight into what drives the team at Charter forward, a personal story by Yuk Chi Chan

Founder and CEO @ Charter (Techstars Space ‘22) | Army Engineer and Logistics Officer | Space Lawyer

Ten years ago, my left lung ruptured and collapsed inside my chest while I was serving as an Officer Cadet in the Army, and it nearly killed me. I've spent every day since trying to reconcile that close brush with death, and understand why despite that, I have continued gambling with ever-increasing levels of risk - starting with ignoring sound medical advice and rejoining officer training, finally commissioning in 2016. Here I've published my attempt to collect the last decade's worth of thoughts into this essay centered around one realization: we're all on borrowed time, and we don't have nearly as much of it as we think, so it's on us to over-leverage whatever we do have to build great things. Or in other words, smoke 'em if you got 'em, because you won't have 'em forever (ironic because my lung injury means I'm on a lifetime smoking ban). I don't often write or share these sorts of personal essays. But as we approach the 3-year anniversary of yukun and I founding Charter, I wanted to share more on why we do this. Because there's nothing in the world that can stop us, short of death itself. And you can believe that guarantee because I've been there, done that, and I'm still kicking. My love and thanks to my wonderful fiancée Elizabeth and my incredible friend and mentor Vincent A. Alessi for their advance comments.
