This revamp underscores our commitment to staying inclusive, ensuring that our community remains the go-to place for all things data & analytics. From engaging talks to laid-back networking, we're amping up our efforts to create a space where everyone can unwind, connect with others, and learn something new. Columbus Web Analytics Wednesdays are an opportunity for digital analysts, digital marketers, and anyone interested in learning more about digital analytics to get together and share their experiences.

Next week I'm going to Columbus, Ohio. Why? Because people in Columbus want to learn more about Piwik PRO & Microsoft Clarity. This is a statistical fact that I've learned as a data person. I've also learned (through the data) that people outside of Columbus Ohio may want to learn more about Piwik PRO and Microsoft Clarity too and may be willing to travel to Columbus, Ohio to learn about these platforms, if someone like Josh Silverbauer will be teaching about them there. Finally, I've also also learned (through the data) that Josh Silverbauer is willing to go to Columbus Ohio to teach about these platforms, if people like Tim Wilson & Jason Packer invite him there. These are all facts. Statistically, I will see you there. (registration in comments)

  • Imagine you have a toy store and you want to know if putting a new toy on sale will make more kids buy it. You could try putting the toy on sale in just one store and see if more kids buy it there. But how do you know if the sale is the reason more kids are buying it, or if it's just because that store is busier than the others? This is where special tools like Geolift come in! They help us understand if changes in one place (like putting a toy on sale) really make a difference, even if we can't track every single customer. Here's how it could work: 🎯 Step 1: Select a group of stores within one chain to put the "Galactic Ranger" on sale. This selection isn't random; stores are cherry-picked to represent a cross-section of all your stores nationally - from bustling city locations to quieter, rural ones. 🎯 Step 2: Using geolift methodologies, which may include statistical models or software tools designed to analyze complex retail data, you compare the sales of the "Galactic Ranger" in your test group against a control group of stores where the price remained unchanged. 🎯 Step 3: The effect of your sale is then isolated by adjusting for variables such as store size, location demographics, and historical sales data, ensuring you're comparing apples to apples. The brilliance of geolift lies in its ability to cut through the noise, revealing if the promotion itself was the hero behind increased sales, or if other villains were at play. To understand this concept more in-depth and how to it could help your business, join us at the next CBUSWAW! 👏 https://lnkd.in/e7N9CbkJ

Last night's CBUSDAW with Matt Gershoff from Conductrics INC was a blast: a presentation that made the case that, above all else, data should be collected with intentionality. That means collecting "just enough" data rather than collecting data with a "just in case" mindset. The benefits of the former are *many*, but, for a range of reasons, we consistently operate with the latter. A recap, link to some awesome resources (I'll be plugging the 7 Principles of Privacy by Design—5 pages of brilliance penned almost 3 decades ago—at least for the rest of 2024), including Matt's slides and some pictures of the event, are posted at: https://lnkd.in/gZPX2NSY

Ohio people, we've got a great Columbus Data & Analytics Wednesday lined up for next week: Matt Gershoff speaking about Privacy by design. This year it feels like all everyone has been wanting to talk about is AI (...but maybe starting to get a little burnt out on the topic?). Privacy by design might be flying under the radar for now, but I feel it's likely to be one of the most important data topics of the future. What's Privacy by design? From the simplest perspective it's about considering user privacy to be a fundamental part of designing a product from the very first steps. I only recently learned there's also a formalized framework with the following principles (https://lnkd.in/gsGEUZjP): 1. Proactive not reactive; preventive not remedial 2. Privacy as the default setting 3. Privacy embedded into design 4. Full functionality – positive-sum, not zero-sum 5. End-to-end security – full lifecycle protection 6. Visibility and transparency – keep it open 7. Respect for user privacy – keep it user-centric Sounds good to me. • Ever feel like managing customer data is like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle with a blindfold on? In the world of analytics and data science, we often imagine our customer data as a gigantic table, where we tirelessly shuffle and connect new bits of information for each individual. But here’s the surprising twist: when it comes to A/B testing and important statistics, we don’t always need to go on a wild scavenger hunt trying to link everything back to a central visitor or customer ID. With a little strategic thinking during our data collection, we can streamline the chaos and free ourselves from the relentless game of “who’s who” in our data zoo. Find out more in our next CBUSDAW event, starring Matt Gershoff! https://lnkd.in/gbZe4Qx2
